England must be nailed-on certainties for the World Cup after yesterday's superb victory. Though I do think the San Marino manager's negative tactics contributed to such a heavy defeat. I think he should have put the showroom dummies up front and given the goat a more attacking midfield role alongside the sloth, with the corpses in a deeper lying role at the back.

Surely it is time to sort out the teams like San Marino and Andorra and the Irelands and Wales and the likes of them?

Maybe have those teams play each other to see if they can play the half decent teams like England and Montenegro.

Huh? Ireland drew with Sweden last night comfortably, you know, the same team that recently beat England 4-2. Bit of a pleb aint ya?

I see Sturridge scored. Good goal? Did he start the game?

Didn't watch the much of the game so don't know when he came on but I think he replaced Shrek sometime after the break

Simple close range header and missed another one that was an absolute sitter

Sturridge made Defoe look like Romario.

Bad patch for our Dan, trying hard but nothing flowed.

Except the header he scored from? That flowed by virtue of it going in the right direction. Into the net.

He's a striker. His job is to score goals. He did that. The same amount of goals as Wayne Rooney who played longer.

Bad patch eh.

Few things from the England game:

Disappointed Hart didn't join in with the attacking play.

There were moments reflection on last season with Liverpool (dominance with little reward) then SM shot themselves in the foot and gave up their chances of a 5-0 win and a clean sheet with the OG.

Really like Oxos control on the ball.

SM had a point were they kept the ball in their back four, then gave it away with a long ball. Rodgers should be all over them for our replacements next season.

San Marino's poor record has led the country to gain a very low reputation in world football. The republic has never won a competitive fixture. A 1–0 friendly win against Liechtenstein in 2004 remains their sole victory to date.

In 2001, Latvia manager Gary Johnson resigned after failing to beat San Marino in a World Cup qualifier. The Republic of Ireland's 2–1 win in February 2007 (due to a last-second goal) resulted in scathing press criticism.

San Marino set a European record when they went over 20 games without scoring between October 2008 and August 2012.

They've only avoided defeat in 4 of their 120 games.

what's the point?
