Shelvey

(i know there was another thread but i cant find it)

i just wanted to say that i dont get what other fans see in him?!

He is a championship player at best.

Far too slow, in running and thought process

He has the heart, as you can see with his tackling, but often its to rectify a bad tocuh or the fact he cant close the guy down quick enough.

He has talent and technique but there is something lacking from his game. I would be totally shocked if he makes it at LFC.

Brendan got it wrong bringing him on today.....

That said, it was a great performance and it was brilliant to hear anfield so loud again. If we can take that desire and commitment into every game we will be a force again.

I feel strange here as im agreeing with jizz.

He does look so far out of his depth at present its unfair to his own development as a player.

Another loan spell has to be the way to go for him as now Coutinho is another who is ahead of him in the pecking order for league games.

From the little Ive seen of Connor Coady he too looks better than Shelvey currently.

Shelvey needs a loan move and a bit more time to assess his progress.

His attitude is a problem for me.

Bit sneering, negative, aggressive. Almost scall-like, bit feral; has he ever shown enjoyment in the game, the miserable get?!

Not for me, what I've seen of the character he portrays onfield but that's not to say he wouldn't benefit from starting 20-30 games out on loan to develop.

Sounds mad I know but this Club suits expressive, emotional types who "get" it.

Shelvey is one who just strikes me who doesn't.

Maybe a loan is the way to go.....

He still wont make it here though, neither will coady.

We could see spearing was abit shit but we kept "hoping" i think its time to be more ruthless. If we want to be a force again we have to be honest with what our eyes tell us....

Ive watched loads of reserve team games and coady doesnt look anything special in them at all. He has the desire and drive but not the technique and skill. Same average passing as spearing had.

If Coady has an eye for goal it might get him a chance or two.

Haven't seen a great deal of Coady to really have an opinion on him. A lad who I go the game with reckons he's got what it takes to make the step up. The other lad he raves about is the right back (McLaughlin I think??). Shelvey, however, I have seen a fair bit of unfortunately. I just don't get it. He's slow, ponderous on the ball and his second touch is usually a rash tackle. His arrogance on the pitch is also baffling. It's as though he's been listening too much to people telling him how great he is.

That would be a Mr B Rodgers that would.

I think Rodgers is running out of patience with him, he's 20 not 18, and has been given a few chances in games to make a difference now and hasn't succeeded at all.

I think he'll either be out on loan in the Summer, or he'll be sold.

I think he'll turn out to be a very good player, but maybe not in a side like ours. In a 442 type of team.

I like him, theres a cracking player in there somewhere, though he strikes me as the type to be slagging the fuck out of the manager behind his back, always taking the piss.

Don't know if its an age thing that will disappear but while he's going through that phase he can do it at some other club.

I dont have a problem with Shelvey's attitude. It shows he doesnt like losing and is up for a fight. its what we need.

But, despite his age, I have reservations about his ability. Im not convinced he has what it takes at the highest level. Dont think there's any need to scapegoat him though.

In a better team, he could come on tons.

I bet you a £5 he isn't. (sold)

I don't get that people don't get him.

He's tidy on the ball, can pass it, not afraid to shoot, has some agression & not afraid to put his foot in. He will go on to be a very decent player.

Roger's rates him highly.

Fuck me what do you want from a 20 year old lad in his first premier season, other than showing decent promise?

I think there is definitely something there with Shelvey. He looked really good for Charlton as a 17 year old, and has done in patches for us. A big part of the problem is working out which position he should be playing in. I probably would look to loan him out next season, as I don't think he'll get enough chances here. A year at a club possibly fighting it out at the bottom of the Premier League could really be the making of him.

Your right. Look how he did on loan at Blackpool, - he was excellent for them.

He has shown enough to suggest that he could be a very useful player, if not absolutely top drawer. Playing that position in a top league takes more than ability though and the experience he us getting will mean that he gets better and better. Not many top teams have a 20 year old pulling the strings in midfield, and as a model he looks like he would be better going down the Tom Cleverly path of getting a year's experience at an outfit like Wigan (where he'll see the ball) - he is no Jack Wilshere after all (few players are). I've liked him since the pass he played for Suarez in the 5-2 at Fulham a couple of years ago. I think he can play, but has been playing poorly recently.

Let's be honest, under a better manager, a specialist in nurturing and handling talent he'd grow into a top class player.

The better manager loaned him out because he is shit and far away from being good enough.

Shelvey coming on lost us the game last night.

I kind of want to keep this quote and throw it back to you when Shelvey fulfills his potential, probably not in Liverpool.

He just needs a mentor and to work hard with his shooting. He's got everything else (technique, attitude, pace, pass).
