Summer 2013 Transfer Thread

Recommended Posts

Mignolet was starting for Belgium before Courtois pushed ahead of him. He's had matches since, but usually just friendlies.

That's not a knock against Mignolet, though. I don't know how people can find fault there... Coutois has been brilliant and won a European trophy with Atletico, whilst being the unquestioned starter, for two seasons, at a bigger club than Sunderland.

Courtois has been the best keeper in the world this year.

No one could argue that he was one of the best at the moment... and he's heading back to Atletico for a 3rd straight year.

Fox Soccer News in the US reported last night that Real Madrid had offered 20 Mil plus Higuain for Suarez. Is that getting any traction anywhere else? Not looking to start a panic, but hoped someone here might be able to shed some light.

The story didn't really get much traction when it was posted about a week ago on the Daily Mirror website.

At least that's better than being offered Nunez.

The key question is this - if Madrid sell Higuain who can they replace him with?

Suarez obviously at the top of the list but if you believe some of the reports emerging from Spain, Ancelotti doesn't want him. So who?

If Ancelotti doesn't fancy him, I don't know who else would want him. Wenger's is nothing more than posturing. No way the Arse will spend 50 m on a player. Sweet Jesus, Suarez may be staying after all.

Has any of these"cash + another player for another player" transfers so fondly being reported my various media actually materialized in recent years?

Yes, and as we would be hoping would happen in this situation as well, the side paying the cash paid through the nose:

Barcelona pay £40 million plus Eto'o for Ibrahimovic

Klopp confirmed that Dortmund were interested in signing Isco and Thiago this summer, but lost out to Madrid and Bayern.

That probably cost us the hairyman.

I don't get Dortmund. They achieved their success a certain way, buying low and selling high, not paying a fortune for players, and then they try and buy some superstars?

I'm not surprised that Isco and Thiago didn't want to link up with Perisic, Blazcykowski and Bender. Lovely players, but no ta.

I suppose it depends if you think finishing 2nd in perpetuity constitutes success. Presumably they have ambitions to go one louder and to actually, you know, win something.

Surely Dortmund are doing the right thing if you stay still in football you go backwards. They benefited from a great crop of German young players that came together at the right time which rarely happens combined with a manager who punched above his weight.

They need to keep success going otherwise the ones that haven't left will leave for more money or a chance of even greater success.

Most teams be it Ajax of the 90's Villareal, Valencia and Deportivo and Levurkeson in the 00's have found this out.

Two league titles in the last three years. Hardly finishing second in perpetuity.

Still, I agree: they need to invest to compete with the Bayern team of last season/next season.
