Losing our best keeper? Correct me if I'm wrong, but Pepe Reina has reiterated his desire to remain at Liverpool for at least the next 3 years. He says he and his agent have had no contact with Barcelona.

As for Luis Suarez, I believe most of it is fabricated nonsense from the media.

Please make it stop.....

Mignolet is better on crosses and a better shot stopper. Better on most key stats in fact.

Just waiting now for someone to say stats are useless and that they judge players "with their eyes". Maybe their eyes didn't register all the times over the last couple of seasons when opposing teams had one or two shots on goal against us and scored, costing us games.

A good post in full.

The issue with Reina is not ability, but motivation.

And a motivated Mignolet is a better bet between the sticks than a Reina wishing he was elsewhere, in the sun, winning trophies.

Just looking at Monaco's squad given all the new players they've bought, one player stood out for me - Henoc Mukendi.

Anyway, am I the only one who'd be a bit surpirsed if we got Atsu, Aspas and Alberto? The squad would be starting to look pretty massive, although two of them are obviously being targeted with the future in mind.

I'm pretty sure we will be selling Assaidi and Downing, so we're only increasing the numbers by one really.

Luis Alberto to have medical Friday after £6.8m deal agreed.

Luis Alberto to have medical at Liverpool ahead of £6.8m move | Mail Online

Sevilla's Luis Alberto will have a medical at Liverpool on Friday after a £6.8million deal was agreed between the two clubs.

The 20-year-old, who will sign on a four-year deal, has been on loan at Barcelona B and had expected to stay at Sevilla, but the cash-strapped club have had to let the striker leave.

Barcelona decided not to take up their option to sign him permanently at the end of his loan stint, and Alberto could be Liverpool's second striker signing of the summer after a deal was agreed for Iago Aspas from Celta Vigo.

The signing puts doubt over the future of Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez, who has hinted he may leave the club this summer.

LUIS ALBERTO: CLUB RECORD

2009-2012 - Sevilla B 77 apps 25 goals

2011 - present - Sevilla 7 apps 0 goals

2012-13 - Barcelona B (loan) 37 apps 11 goals

The news comes a day after Sevilla sporting director Monchi said Liverpool’s initial offer for Alberto not quite good enough - but the Merseysiders have struck a deal.

Alberto has played once for Spain's U21 side, and scored 11 goals in 38 appearances for Barcelona B last season.

He scored 25 goals in 77 games for Sevilla B between 2009 and 2012, and has played just seven La Liga games for the club.

BBC Sport - Liverpool to sign Sevilla forward Luis Alberto

By Phil McNulty

Chief football writer

Liverpool have moved closer to completing another summer signing with Sevilla forward Luis Alberto scheduled to arrive on Merseyside on Friday for a medical ahead of a £6.8m move.

The 20-year-old Spain Under-21 international has been on loan at Barcelona B but they have not take up their option and Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers stepped in to sign Alberto.

2011-present - Sevilla: Seven apps 0 goals

2012-13 - Barcelona B (loan): 37 apps 11 goals

The Reds have also made significant progress in the last 48 hours with their move to sign Sunderland goalkeeper Simon Mignolet.

Sunderland are holding out for £10m for the Belgium keeper after Liverpool offered £8m - but a deal is on the brink of being struck after further talks between the two clubs and the move is expected to be completed early next week.

Liverpool have already signed Kolo Toure from Manchester City on a free transfer and have a £6.7m deal agreed in principle for Celta Vigo's Iago Aspas which will go through once paperwork has been completed.

Rodgers is also progressing with a move to sign Shakhtar Donetsk's Armenia midfielder Henrkih Mkhyitaryan but there may not be a swift resolution to this transfer with Liverpool facing competition from a number of European clubs.

The 24-year-old has a release clause in his contract, believed to be around £20m, and Liverpool are willing to meet it in an attempt to sign one of European football's most coveted emerging players.
