Hmm I wouldn't be surprised if rumours like the ridiculous one above were put out by Utd.

 

The Rooney marketing machine has been really pushed by the best in the business (them) but I'm not sure it's worked like it did with say Beckham or Ronaldo. He's neither likeable, easy on the eye or extra special talent wise.

Rooney is a waste of a footballer, he had all the attributes to be among the top 3 or 4 players in the world and mostly he never even managed to be top dog at his club. The aggression and desire has gone out of his game, this is what happens when you reach the "top" without earning it, he used to have Dirk Kuyt's attitude mixed with real talent, now he just plays occasionally, he's also a knobhead.

 

When the dusts settles on his career he will have won the same as Micheal Carrick and contributed about the same amount to the really big games. Can't see him leaving Utd unless they force him out, he's too thick to go abroad and FFP will mean not many will be willing or able to match his current wages.

Going back to Liverpool - if the club wants to make the next step forward and move closer to the Manchester clubs then I believe they need possibly 5 new players for next season:

 

Left Back

Centre Back to replace Carragher

Defensive Midfield to compete with Lucas

Attacking Midfielder/Forward

Attacking Wide/Centre

 

In addition there is a big decision that needs to be made regarding Reina.

 

My preference for the latter two positions would be Eriksen (Ajax) and Alexis Sanchez (Barcelona) both will be available this summer.

 

I would move on Carroll, Downing, Wilson, Pacheco, Assaidi, Spearing in addition to losing Carragher who is retiring.

I don't think left back is a problem area for us, Enrique, Johnson and Robinson have that covered, for next season at least. I think we'll need 2 centre backs as well.

I think Luke Shaw is a great shout, he looks brilliant every time i've seen him, very composed and quick, and comfortable on the ball.

 

But i think alot of clubs are looking at him, didn't Arsenal have a bid turned down already?

on initial instinct I'd love Vermaelen playing for us but really he is far too similar to Agger, plus seems to have declined a lot lately
