Supposed to be £75mill upfront wasn't it?

The way the VVD transfer has been structured means that LFC’s payments will be made in three equal instalments of £23.3m over the next 3 years, with £4m in performance related addons.Celtic's 10% sell-on fee means that Saints have less than £17m from the sale to spend this month-Matt Hughes, Times

So only £4million in clauses then.  Most transfers are structured over a number of years.

Real starting already with Salah, saying they know it would be difficult to buy him this January. Seriously what the fuck are they smoking over there? I’m hoping Salah is cut from a different cloth than Coutinho and wants some sort of longevity here to build a legacy but again the lure of Barca and Real is impossible to stop when they really want their man, all we can do is what we done with Coutinho, tell them to fuck off and make him stay and try and change his mind, for what it’s worth Salah doesn’t seem the type to kick up a fuss and Klopp seems to have taken him up a level since he joined, saying that Coutinho’s gone up a few and gained the all important consistency that he lacked under Klopp and that hasn’t made a difference.

I like the idea of sticking to Africans over South Americans, Spain is unstable at the moment with the Catalan independency and the fact that football matches are tainted with a lot of racist incidents, it could deter some of them from leaving, England is actually far far away from most of the other big leagues in terms of racist incidents.

Salah will want to go after next season as well. They're all cunts mate.

140m+ if spent well buys 2-3 very good players in weaker parts of the team. The net benefit of that should be a better Liverpool team than anything Countinho could have offered by his own merits.

Of course, that depends on the 140m being well spent, but in terms of a very real chance to improve Liverpool, it makes sense.

I don't think you'll miss him all that much.

Your shiny optimism is unwelcome at this juncture.

You're also conveniently forgetting wages for our three new megastars - we can't afford to play three top players because we don't have your obscene wealth at our disposal.

Jürgen Klopp offered his reaction to the news Liverpool Football Club have today reached an agreement with FC Barcelona for the transfer of Philippe Coutinho, subject to the player passing a medical and agreeing personal terms with the La Liga side.

He told Liverpoolfc.com: “It is with great reluctance that we – as a team and club – prepare to say farewell to a good friend, a wonderful person and a fantastic player in Philippe Coutinho.

“It is no secret that Philippe has wanted this move to happen since July, when Barcelona first made their interest known.

“Philippe was insistent with me, the owners and even his teammates this was a move he was desperate to make happen.

“Despite that, we managed to keep the player here beyond the summer window, hoping that we would be able to persuade him to stay and be part of what we are looking to do.

“I can tell the Liverpool supporters that we, as a club, have done everything within our means to convince Philippe that remaining part of LFC was as attractive as moving to Spain, but he is 100 per cent certain his future – and that of his family – belongs at Barcelona. It is his dream and I am now convinced there is nothing left at our disposal to change his mind.

“Philippe has made a fantastic contribution to this club over his five years of service and as disappointed as we are he doesn’t want to extend that, the relationship we have for him means with a heavy heart we wish him well.

“The player remained dedicated and committed to helping us win matches, producing good performances and training hard each day at Melwood after the summer window had closed, despite failing to convince us to allow him to leave during that period and that level of professionalism reflects positively on him.

“Of course, it is totally understandable that supporters will be disappointed; this is always the case when you have to say goodbye to someone special. But, as hard as it is sometimes to accept, it is part of life and part of football – individuals have their own dreams and their own goals and objectives in life.

“Players will come and players will go, that is football, but as a club we are big enough and strong enough to continue with our aggressive progression on the pitch, even when we lose an important player. We have never been in a better position in recent times, as a club, to react in the right way. We will use our size and strength to absorb moments like this and still move forward.

“I have been here long enough now to know in the history of Liverpool, key players have left before – but the club always goes on. You cannot transfer the heart and soul of Liverpool Football Club, although I am sure there are many clubs who would like to buy it.

“I have so much belief in the talent we have here already and even more faith, together with our owners, that we will make continued investment into the playing squad, which will allow more growth and more improvement.

“So as we bid farewell to Philippe, we continue on our path of progress and development as we work towards our common goal of bringing trophies back to Anfield.”

Kurt from the club. Hope he does not write a sorry to be leaving letter to the fans.

It's not optimism - I didn't say Liverpool would spend it well, only that it makes sense that they should take the money with a view to creating a better balanced team.

You can afford it. Liverpool aren't paupers by any stretch of the imagination.

No, we can not afford it.  We can not afford to pay three top players in place of one top player.  I can guarantee we will not sign three top players in this window. We might, if we're lucky, get one.

That statement from Klopp - pure shill behaviour.

They are not his words (although he probably agrees with some) they have been written for him.

Really? Based on what, exactly?

Based on the fact he can't write English that well, despite being able to speak it to a decent level.

What are you using to base it on your belief they are his words and he penned all that by himself?
