Barcelona are finalising a package in excess of €150 million for Philippe Coutinho, which would make him their record signing and the third most expensive player in the world. Seems to now be a matter of when not if a deal will be done..

I do not see anything in there that says Liverpool will accept Barcelonas first bid which will be lower than the club wants. I also do not see anything there that says Liverpool will not do a deal that suit us by agreeing a sale but him leaving in summer. I do agree it is a question of when not if though.

Barcelona are finalising an offer in excess of €150 million to secure Philippe Coutinho from Liverpool, which would make him the third-most expensive footballer in the world and their record signing.

There was a possibility of doing an advanced deal now ahead of 2018-19, but Barca and Coutinho have pushed for an immediate transfer.

The base amount will be €120m nd it will be supplemented by €40m in add-ons related to performances and appearances, which are likely to be triggered. (Melissa Reddy)

Coutinho won't leave this January, it doesn't help either club.

Well it does help Barcelona

They settle the player in this year with the league just about won. They can use him to rest Dembele/Messi/Iniesta in league games. They start transitioning Iniesta out of the starting XI now with no pressure.Makes all the sense for them, just not for us

How can it not help Barca? He can’t play in the CL but he can play every other game.

We are the ones who it doesn’t make any sense for.

As I said I think we should do with Phil what we have done with Keita and fix the price and sign it all off for after our last game of the season

It would be 'nice' for them to have him now, but it's not an emergency, it's not even a priority.

I don't imagine he'll need much time to 'bed-in' with that team.

I'd only accept a sale in Jan if we were offered Turan on the cheap.  He might help us with the run-in this season, but wouldn't be an obstacle in terms of replacing him in the summer if it didn't work out.

From memory, I think he had made positive noises about us in the past.

Just flip the circumstances.  We're ten points clear and Messi throws a strop, saying he only wants to play for LFC.  Still doesn't help us if we get him?

Turan has been wasting away on the Barca bench pretty much since he joined them. I'm sure they'd be only too happy to get rid. I'm not sure he'd make a positive impact here either.

I'm glad if true as various reports are suggesting that the owners have left the entire matter to Klopp and he's calling the shots this time round. There're still a lot of ifs and buts in this saga though. I have my doubts that Barcelona will meet our financial requirements, banking still on Coutinho's strong desire to force his way out as the decisive factor in thier favour. They're arrogant gits. But if they do come up with a package acceptable to us, Klopp has ample time to get in Lemar who reportedly favours us over the likes of Scum and Chelsea.... doomsday scenario averted.
