Like others have said, there could be no good reason for selling him in January that I could accept. Putting together a deal for the summer, yes. Letting him leave now, no way. We hold all the aces here and it's becoming an important season for us. Selling him now would be an absolute joke. Disrupting the harmony, etc doesn't wash with me - he'd start playing again, what other choice does he have?

Far from a reliable source...

Liverpool are reportedly in talks with Monaco on a deal to secure a replacement for Barcelona-bound midfielder Philippe Coutinho.

The Anfield club look set to lose Coutinho to Barca this January, with recent reports suggesting the La Liga club will shatter two records in Spain to push through a €110million deal for the Brazilian.

According to Yahoo Sports, Jurgen Klopp is being proactive in the transfer market and is currently working on a deal to bring Monaco star Thomas Lemar to Merseyside.

The Reds had a bid rejected for the Frenchman in the summer, while Arsenal had a bid accepted but Lemar rejected the move as he felt the Gunners weren’t the right destination for him.

According to the report, Lemar has remained in contact with Liverpool and would be willing to join Klopp’s side in January should the two clubs agree a fee.

Furthermore, the reports suggest Lemar has decided to join the Reds ahead of rival interest from Chelsea and Manchester United, with the player believing the chance to play under Klopp will most further his game and enhance his prospects of making France’s World Cup squad.

And it’s suggested a deal will be wrapped up just as soon as Coutinho leaves Anfield and makes his long-anticipated move to Barcelona.

I suppose he could argue that he could get injured and thus the deal maybe put in jeopardy.

From that point of view he probably has a point.

Being honest I think he just wants to be a Barca player the sooner the better.

The club need to be firm with him though, summer and Barca meet our valuation, get on with your job.

Let's see.

This kind of stuff from that Ballbag or whatever his name is pisses me off...

Talking about Coutinho going there now

"Balague also says the timing of the move in January would allow Coutinho space to settle into life at the Nou Camp, and despite leading La Liga by nine points, Balague says there are clear weaknesses in Ernesto Valverde's side, with Atletico Madrid's Antoine Griezmann their other main target.

"It has a lot to do with the time it takes for a new player to adapt to a new situation and a new team. What is quite clear is that Barcelona have decided to reinforce the squad, and to reinforce the first XI.

"They want Griezmann, and they want Coutinho, with Coutinho coming now and if not, in the summer. They will try for Griezmann in the summer, and the buy-out clause will be 100m euros"

Not our fucking problem how he settles there how long it takes etc...

I suppose if they want him that badly for those reasona then that will just be another few million on the price then won't it....

It doesn't matter to me if we get Lemar or Goretzka, or both, as replacements in this window.

We should under no circumstances sell him in this window ...! He's under contract with massive wages that he was delighted to sign a year ago and we are Liverpool Football Club ...we should not be bowing to pressure from player or any other club. If he wants to go to Barca and play in the sun with his friends ....fine ...he can go.

But they will have to pay thru the nose and he can only leave when it suits us ....not him or them.

And it doesn't suit us right now at all. Barca and Nike can take all those pre-printed shirts and stuff em up their arseholes. And Suarez and the rest of the players can put all their Instagram messages in the same place.

He can leave at the end of the season but not a moment before.

Digging at FSG, they kept Coutinho in summer when Klopp thought best to sell. Coutinho got rid of his house, cars, daughters place in pre-school, he thought he was off. FSG kept out of matter of principle. Let the decision with Klopp going forward. Klopp wants gone.#LFC

Liverpool must either keep Coutinho against his wishes for a second successive window and deal with the fallout or sell and risk doing serious damage to a season which promises so much, writes @JamesPearceEcho

While the Reds have refused to publicly rule out a sale, what hasn't changed is their determination to ensure they won't be railroaded into a deal which isn't in the club's long-term interests. (James Pearce)

A transfer request and imaginary tales of his relationship with Klopp breaking down didn't do the trick back in August and the threat of going on strike remains fanciful. That won't happen with the World Cup on the horizon. (James Pearce)

One thing worth making absolutely clear. IF Coutinho goes in January, it is Klopp’s decision.

Barcelona will submit a big in the coming days for Coutinho, the approach has changed to reach a deal with Liverpool without turmoil. The Brazilian’s mutiny is about him being desperate to join the club, rather than “ordered” by Barça.

Barcelona still has to make sales to break even and not find itself in heavy financial trouble, players like Turan, Aleix, Rafinha and others have to be sold now or until the end of June.

He’s causing too much trouble for Liverpool, if the club is fed up with this situation and the right bid comes in, he’ll sign.

About Coutinho. Barcelona will soon make an offer of €110+40. Chairman Bartomeu feels in debt to him for how hard he's trying to go to FCB. Their top players want him. LFC have changed their tone but have not put price to him. They will act when offer arrives. Which it will.

Assume they will bid on Friday afternoon.

If I was a getting man I'd also Imagine that we will sell. Will stumble through against Porto and get knocked out in next round, with media spinning it that we would have lost with Coutinho anyway, so little difference.

We will be there or there abouts for forth. If we get it we will be told how pocketing the coutinho money was a success, with it being spun as though we have that money to spend plus CL money, when in reality it will just be the VVD and Keita money. If we fall just short of CL the coutinho money will still be used to cover Keita and BBC but we will be told we would have signed players but we have no CL and we can't improve what we have. The fact we lost out on CL will be justified by the fact that the league is more competitive now and how other big teams missed out. Coutinho will also be represented as thus inconsistent genius, with who we still struggled in many games, so again, selling him didn't make a difference.

I was optimistic last week too, happy with VVD news and throwing down Christmas food.

And it's started, right on cue.

So the owners went over Klopp's head in the summer and decided to make a stand for a matter of, ooh, 4 months. Yet now, when the stakes are higher and the behaviour from Nike/Barcelona is even worse, the owners don't want to make a stand any more. Hmm something smells fishy.

So when Coutinho is gone and we don't fully reinvest it will no doubt be back to "Klopp doesn't want to spend".

So. The decision is Klopp's, and not FSG. Klopp wants him gone. In fact Klopp wanted him gone in the summer. He's causing too much trouble. And Barcelona may make an offer.

That's all good then.

Does he really look like he's causing too much trouble to you? Playing well as an individual and for the team, clearly still popular with his teammates?

Ask yourself, why would FSG's resolve have weakened in the space of 4 months?

poor Jurgen.  He's too clearly too wet behind the ears to know he's been played like a toothy violin by these crafty owners who are running rings around the poor naive lad.

Seriously.  You need to listen to yourselves.

I think he plays best when he's unhappy.

Ask yourself, why wouldn't FSG have sold Klopp in the summer?

Ask yourself, is it just possible that Klopp might have been badgering them to sell this January after getting fed up?

Who said anything about being played? My point has zero to do with Klopp, the fella can look after himself and I'm sure he knows the realities of football and in particular working at a selling club.
