I see this all the time, who are these teams below Everton in the long run who are supposed to be above them?

That's a good point Frode. Everton are clearly a better first 11 and squad in comparison to the bottom half of the league so they are about where they should be.

You joined in 2007, have only 900 posts and you surface here telling us how well David 'The Winner' Moyes is gonna do at utd. I smell a rat.

Yeah, I'd guess about 850 of those posts are about man of the match polls, the same ones he does across at a number of different lfc sites, one of which I know is a private lfc forum that is quite selective on membership. Pretty sure he also watched a cup final with lurtz too.

Morse you devious fucker, all of that ground work to lead up to the post saying Moyes could be successful at a club that has everything in place for success. I feel cheated.

Yes I'd say they have performed to their level, its Everton after all, one of the most sucessful clubs in England, not Wigan or Reading.

Not really. Anyway I think he's a decent manager that has done well with a shit club like Everton but it stops now, I'm not going to put any effort into defending that belief.

Say what you like...Everton's position in the league (without having a pot to piss in) is a real achievement year after year.

If he take's over at Man Utd, he will succeed.

He will "succeed," eh? What does that word mean to you?

Because even if he finishes second next year and goes out of the CL in the quarterfinals, that's not "success" as United have defined it over the past decade or two.

I have no doubt that the media will crown him a big success as long as they're in the top 4 come next May. But the fact of the matter is that he is a much, much weaker manager than Ferguson, so even if he does well the fact that he's not doing brilliantly will mean they've gone backwards.

Moyes is a good manager, it's true. He'll do OK there. The problem is that United are used to having a great manager, and "OK" won't be good enough.

Which is right. Moyes has a history of developing youth because he has had no choice. When the pressure is on, the media and fans breathing down his neck, will he rely on a 19yo? I doubt it.

I really hope Moyes signs for Man Utd.

I don't know how any United fan can be happy with this. They can have their pick of managers, within reason. We should be delighted they're not getting Klopp, Mourinho, Ancelotti, Conte, Hiddink, or somebody with really pedigree and/or potential. They've sold lost their managerial Torres and replaced him with a managerial Carroll.

History shows that replacing any mangerial great is a gamble, a gamble which invariably fails first time around.

Moyes makes sense. He will cause minmum disruption (Ayres/Rodgers), knows what he is doing, is well connected in the region and PL, and the club's momentum will carry him through for a year or so anyway.

Mourinho would probably do better, but would not be around too long, and would tear up the existing infrastructure.

It is a good appointment for us in that it will weaken Everton who have overperformed under his leadership and a bad one for us in that it is such a low risk appointment at Man U.

Everton have underperformed under Moyes.

11 years without a win at Anfield, Old Trafford, Highbury, Emirates or Stamford Bridge.

11 years without a trophy.

11 years where their overall average position in the league has been lower than their overall average the last 33 years.

The worst 11 year period at Everton in more than 50 years.

11 years periods at Everton:

02/03-12/13:

91/92-01/02: 1 FA Cup.

80/81-90/91: 2 league titles, 1 FA Cup, 1 Cup winners Cup

69/70-79/80: 1 league title.

58/59-68/69: 1 league title, 1 FA Cup

I don't know what these tables are setting out to prove. What I can say is that football is a very different proposition to what it was in 80s. Medium sized teams outside of London such as Everton, Forest, Ipswich, Villa, Coventry, etc have little chance of mounting any realistic challenge for a title. Moyes has done well to have them finishing above us a number of times.

Liverpool - 5th largest turnover, 5th largest wage bill.

Newcastle - 7th largest turnover, 8th largest wage bill.

Sunderland - Joint 8th largest wage bill.

Aston Villa - 7th largest wage bill.

Everton had the 10th largest wage bill but are consistently finishing just outside the CL places in 5th/6th.

Look, I am not a fan of Everton...just don't understand the unnecessary knocking of a good manager.
