Rodgers' biggest mistake with Carroll and Downing was not selling them.

Fucking hell, he's not a miracle worker! It'll take some serious Del-boy style shit to shift them two for a fraction of the £55m we paid for them.

If he'd have sold them at at massive loss, some pricks would say he should have loaned/played them to get the value up. Damned if he does, damned if he doesn't. I am starting to feel that Rafa has more support from home fans than Rodgers does!!!!

Could have got £12m for Carroll and £8m for Downing in the summer. That's the advantage of them being English. Some retard like Pulis or O'Neill will buy them.

The £55m is irrelevant. Fucking up in the past isn't an excuse to continue to do so, just got to move on really.

I wonder whether West Ham will exercise their option at the end of this season? Oflloading will involve the mother of all hits on fees and wages for both of them.

Who knows? His injury has obviously made things more difficult. Our advantage is that Cole and Chamakh are fucking terrible.

Carroll was touted everywhere and nobody wanted him on a permanent transfer.

I'm not convinced by your claim that he could have sold them, mate. I do think the £55m is relevant, though; surely loaning Carroll out in the hope that he has another purple patch, like he did at Newcastle, and be worth double that amount is as valid as just selling him?

It's a massive amount of money just to throw away on a whim.

Well I disagree. He's fucking shit, so you're backing a long shot if you're hoping for him to have a great season and be worth £20m plus.

My argument is that at some point you'll have to take a massive hit on that money. Him and Downing simply weren't worth anywhere near £55m, probably a third of that. So you have two options keep them or loan them out and hope they suddenly become really good, or you take the hit now and get on with it. We could have spent that £20m on a striker for this season.

I just feel too often we look at the transfer fee in isolation. "We paid £10m so we can't accept £5m". Well what about wages? I accept Carroll's have been covered. What about the improved chances of getting into the Champions League, and the money that brings? Etc.

I can understand the club's decision. I just think the very best clubs don't linger over their mistakes, even if it means taking a short term hit.

I suspect you know how I feel about the players, but I honestly don't think it's as easy to sell such high profile flops as you're making out.

I think they're part of the problem we've had recently, but we need to make sure we can reinforce with better players. Sometimes getting rid of a turd takes a few flushes.

Aye. In Comolli's defence he was quite a decent toilet the previous summer.

I blame Rodgers for not signing them when he was in charge at Swansea.

I'd have Carroll back when he's fit! We still only have two front men.

Yeah, he flushed some real whoppers that summer. Konchesky, Jovanovic, Kyriakos, Poulsen, Degen... I bet that took some time in the toilet.

Unless we give Carroll a free transfer, chances are we will never get rid of him. No club will part with money for a player they know isn't wanted at his parent club and is worth about a third, at best, of what was paid for him, and isn't actually that good.

The best we can hope for is that we aren't paying him to play for someone else in 12 months time....or that Newcastle are that desperate they have to stump up the 8m they had for Remy as they can't get anyone else in.

I can't see him wanting a permanent move to anyone but Newcastle and our boss clearly doesn't want or rate him. The only issue will be whether we actually get anything for him and will that 'anything' be used to subsidise his wages when he has gone.

If they (Newcastle or West Ham or in fact anyone) offered us 5m and agreed to take up his contract I'd let him go now.

So in answer to your question Code, yes, most of the money Kenny had and wasted has gone up in smoke.

Nobody will part with money for Downing AND match his wages, it will be one or the other....so that's the best part of 55m set fire to already.

55 million for Andy carrol and Stewart downing. I know its been done a billion times before but seriously what the fucking fuck, how can football men, men involved in football there whole lives be the only people on the entire fucking planet that thought that was a good use of funds. It's so fucking crazy its quantum, its actually quantum. If you think you understand those deals then you don't understand those deals. Only liverpool. Only the club I support had to be that fucking stupid.

55 MILIIIION, I feel like Danny devito in twins..it's shit.

If I took a sloppy shit in the middle of Anfield' date=' it'd have more potential to be built upon than the players we bought under Kenny.[/quote']

You Rodgers basher you. You can't stand it that Downing is a given on BR's teamsheet.

Yeah, it's not like he's desperate to get new players in. Oh, wait...

But you're right, I don't like Downing starting. He's not very good. He does the odd good thing, but it can't be said that he's 'very good'. We need very good players. In fact, it should be a rule at a club like Liverpool that you must be a 'very good' player to hold down a starting position. That includes players I like as well as players I don't.

the reality is downing is a btter option than anything else we have at the moment

our season really only started improving when downing and henderson were given a fair cut

i'm prepared to accept that rodgers may have had somehting to do with their improved form

but then he drops henderson for allen aginst the mancs
