i reckon what will happen is that the automatic weapons will be banned again in the US, and life will go on. However, if you wish to look at the situation globally, here:

Homicide rates: Murder most foul | The Economist

Or you may wish to freak out. In any case, it seems to me that the US as a world power has had its peak. We in Europe, as well. Then, you can look at the more violent societies, and draw your own conclusions.

That shows Afghanistan in the same bracket as UK for murder. Surely cant be right.

I read the headline to this story and at first though it was maybe an over reaction to two kids getting a little carried away with their imaginations. It may well have been the case but WTF or how does a 10-11 year old get his hands on a gun and ammunition ? Wonder how an armed teacher would have dealt with this had this plan gone any further ?

Two Washington boys to stand trial for murder conspiracy

COLVILLE, Wash. (AP) — A northeast Washington judge has found two boys, ages 10 and 11, competent to stand trial in juvenile court on a murder conspiracy charge.

Stevens County Prosecutor Tim Rasmussen says the fifth-graders had a handwritten plan listing seven steps leading up to the planned killing of a female classmate. That list was submitted as evidence at their mental capacity hearing Friday.

A county judge ruled that the boys understood the nature and consequences of their actions. They pleaded not guilty to conspiracy to commit murder, witness tampering and juvenile possession of a firearm.

The boys were arrested Feb. 7 at Fort Colville Elementary School after a fourth-grader saw one playing with a knife on a school bus and told a school employee. A backpack search also turned up a .45-caliber semi-automatic pistol and ammunition.

The Spokesman Review reports (Colville boys, 10 and 11, will stand trial in murder conspiracy - Spokesman.com - March 29, 2013 ) the boys are being held on $100,000 bond each. Both a defense psychiatrist and a state psychologist say they present a danger to the community.

Because people leave weapons designed to kill laying around like it's their phone. Kids are killed all the time playing with loaded weapons their parents/family members leave unsecured.

It's scarcely more difficult than that to get a gun in the States anyway.

Close but no cigar.

Boy 5, accidentally shoots dead sister, 2, with his OWN rifle

A toddler in America was accidentally shot dead by her five-year-old brother who had been given the gun as a birthday present.

Little Caroline Starks was killed when the boy fired the .22 calibre rifle he had been given last year at her.

The two-year-old was rushed to the Cumberland County Hospital in Burkesville, Kentucky, but was pronounced dead on arrival.

The shooting comes as President Obama continues to press for stricter gun controls in the wake of the Sandy Hook elementary school massacre that left 20 pupils and six teachers dead in December.

His plans, however, have been met by fierce opposition from gun lobbyists who argue it is their right to carry arms.

The mother of the two children had stepped outside their home for “just a few minutes” when the unnamed boy shot his sister yesterday afternoon.

He had been given the Crickett gun, branded “My First Rifle” as a gift.

The company’s website features three different .22-calibre rifle models for children, with shoulder stock colours ranging from pink to red, white and blue swirls.

Manufacture Keystone Sporting Arms claims the rifle will “instill safety in the minds of youth shooters.”

Cumberland County Coroner Gary White said: “The little Crickett rifle is a single-shot rifle and it has a child safety.

"It’s just a tragic situation. It’s just one of those crazy accidents.”

He said the family didn’t realise a shell was left in the barrel of the gun.

Police are treating Caroline’s death as accidental.

Kentucky State Police Public Affairs officer Billy Gregory said: “The mother was home at the time of the incident but she had stepped outside.

"It’s just one of those nightmares. A quick thing that happens when you turn your back."

Gregory added young children in the area are often introduced to guns at an early age.

“In this part of the country, it’s not uncommon for a five-year-old to have a gun or for a parent to pass one down to their kid,” he said.

The toddler’s death comes in the wake of two other incidents last month involving young children shooting others.

A four-year-old boy in Tennessee shot and killed a 48-year-old woman then just days later six-year-old Brandon Holt was killed in New Jersey after being shot in the head by his four-year-old playmate.

12 year old lifer on tomorrow night at 10.00

In April 2010, in the small town of Enchanted Hills in Indiana, USA, 12-year-old Paul Gingerich helped his friend, 15-year-old Colt Lundy, shoot and kill Colt's stepfather.

The shocking murder of Phillip Danner was carried out by two middle-class boys with no prior criminal records. The story has gripped and baffled America.

With unprecedented access to both boys, their families, and the ongoing court case, this True Stories film offers an extraordinary insight into the crime and its aftermath, as the key players give poignant and candid interviews telling their side of the story.

After plotting the crime in the local playground after school, Paul and Colt shot Phillip multiple times, with his own guns. They then stole his car, fled the scene and were picked up by the police 200 miles away. To date, there is no known motive for the crime.

In spite of their ages, both Paul and Colt were tried and sentenced as adults, and are each serving 30 years. At 12, Paul is one of the youngest children in American history to be waived to adult court.

Colt was sent straight to maximum security adult prison and will be transferred to the adult wing when he turns 18.

Paul's family is waging a controversial and historic appeal for him to be re-tried as a juvenile, meaning he could avoid being sent to adult prison and remain in a juvenile facility.

What do you expect from a country where lobbyists have more power over politicians than a 90 percent majority?

There is no 90% majority, first of all.

Second of all, it's less to do with the lobbyists and more to do with the Constitution, which our country was founded on.

Every gun sold in the USA at a gun shop or a gun show requires a background check by law. That is law. You can't regulate interpersonal sales and never will be able to.

Wrong. I can't be arsed educating you on your own country's laws. Go away and educate yourself.

PolitiFact Texas | Lee Leffingwell says polls show 90 percent of Americans and 74 percent of NRA members support criminal background checks before all gun buys

Austin’s mayor said 90 percent of Americans and 74 percent of National Rifle Association members support universal background checks for gun purchases.

Polls taken in 2012 and 2013 support both figures, though one taken closest to Leffingwell’s press conference indicates support among all Americans possibly slipping a bit below 90 percent. Also, the 2012 poll he cited for NRA members rolled together responses of current and former/lapsed members. Then again, a 2013 poll similarly suggests that 74 percent of NRA members favor universal background checks.

Btw, it's true that it's not just lobbyists. Among other things is congress members not wanting to vote for anything proposed by the other party whatsoever, which is just further proof that your government is defunct, proving yet again that your blessed America is so fucked up you don't even understand.

A political quagmire of epic proportions where everyone are blaming the other party for everything that's wrong because no one are responsible enough to put an end to this embarassing standstill.
