Not the most original thread but I'm in work on my bill so indulge me.

 

The first Liverpool player I loved, between him and Fowler for my favourite ever red. He was a gent too, quietly spoken, ultimate pro - his style made the 'spice boys' behaviour even harder to stomach back then.

 

Like Fowler, he was just guaranteed goals and when the shit hit the fan you knew he'd deliver. I still remember the feeling in the 89 final when his winner went in two minutes after that ginger haircut on legs.

Anfield absolutely rocked when we were singing his name on the Kop after scoring yet another goal.

 

I loved his finishing. The keeper rarely got close to them.

Clinical does not even come close. His all round game was also brilliant link up and a superb passer of the ball. He'd be priceless in todays market. Only Van Basten and Fowler can touch him imo.

Rush was an absolute goalscoring phenomenon at his peak between 82 and 84. I don't think I've ever seen another striker that I was more sure would score whenever the ball came to him for a chance.

We did. The league cup final against Arsenal in 1987 was the first time I think.

Completely agree with that, he was overshadowed by Lineker in the eyes of everyone outside Anfield, he was when I was a kid anyway - I loved Lineker too to be honest as an England fan back then, loved his attitude to the game, but he was nowhere near Rush.
