I literally watched it for 2 mins and turned it off. What a load of shite. The clothes, the accents and the barnets were nothing like what it was like. How the fuck did he ever get that commissioned ? All these professional scousers that were once just ordinary match going reds who are now authors, playwrights, and film makers. Get a grip for for fucksake. I've not read one of theses books or watched on of theses films and thought yeah that was really good. The boys from the Annie road by Nicky Alt, give me a break it was a load of made up nonsense. I know this because I was at half of the games he goes on about and I can tell you most of it was made up. So you know who you are, Sampson, Alt and Kirkby and the rest of you fuck off you all do my head in.

I detect jealousy.

With regard to Awaydays, you do realise it's set in Birkenhead, not Liverpool?

Yeah your dead right fella. Jealous of someone who produces absolute shite and makes money from it. And yes I am aware of it being set in Birkenhead, but I presume Sampson wrote it based on his experiences on traveling away with liverpool. I admire real talent and don't begrudge anyone who makes money from real talent and ability. These people have neither.

So was I, well the domestic games anyway, so maybe you know more than me if you are talking about Euro travels.

But as far as I'm concerned it pretty much did happen the way he described, apart from the usual exaggerations and embellishments we all use when telling a story.

It seems you "made up" the title of the book too cos it wasn't called that.

As for Awaydays, I could never understand why Sampson, when talking about the book/film always described what it was like at Liverpool games, when it was actually about Tranmere's "lads." In particular he tended to reference that notorious league cup semi at Anfield against Arsenal in the late 70s when there was absolute Bedlam.

What did that have to do with anything if it wasn't about Liverpool?

It's all very well giving Sampson and the others shit on here. Why not make contact with them, either via the internet or at the match, to offer your opinion?

Yes' date=' that's right. It was released in 2009, we're now nearing the end of 2012, do keep up.[/quote']

Makes no sense. You saying I should be aware of the storyline of every film ever made? I recorded it because I'd not seen it, pretty much how it works.

There was loads of made up shit in it. Without reading it all again I can't give specifics but he goes on about a game at millwall in the late eighties where there was murder coming out at the end. Well that was nonsense because we walked out at the end and seen absolutely no trouble at all. The whole liverpool end that night was cockney reds and 1 coach from liverpool and I think us 4 in a car. I don't know if he was getting mixed up with the cup game the year before where the was a lot of trouble, but that was a Sunday afternoon , and the game he referred to was a midweek night game.

The book was good and it actually describes the characters of the main protagonists. The film is just bizarre and doesn't seem to have any characterisation at all. Yes the accents are awful but the worst parts are the fact that a gang of scrawny little art student types can get the train down to the midlands and beat the shit out of middle aged bruisers who look like they've shit bigger than some of the Tranmere "crew". There seems to be a subliminal gay storyline between the 2 main characters and they wander round New Brighton and Ellesmere Port like like a pair of gay refugees from the Fools Gold Stone Rosea video.
