we need to start playing total football. goals from everywhere. this is why the likes of allen and stirling will always be crap. they couldnt score if their lives depended on it. downing and henderson look good these days, cos everyone else sets the bar so low.

Its Sterling. with an "E". If you're gonna slate one of our players' date=' get his name right.

Pet hate of mine, spelling names wrong even though we read them daily. Meriles? Jovonic? Gerard (not the ex manager), its terrible!!![/quote']

Hamman..

More than happy for Stirling to prove me wrong.

He began this season as a 17 year old, starting his first league games. Since then he has played his way into the England side (creating a great chance that lead to the goal, BTW). He might not be at his most productive now, but he's just turned old enough to buy himself a beer. To say he'll always be crap is almost as retarded as saying Suarez is lazy. Which you also said.

Sterling isn't crap now, in fact he's very good for his age. You don't get many (any?) 17 year old wingers scoring a hatful of goals. It takes time and confidence to do that. Have a look back at Ronaldo and Messi's stats at 17. I don't think he'll be as good as either of those players - two of the best players ever, in my opinion - but he can be a top class player. Your assertion that he'll always be crap shows just how daft you are as a person. It's part of the reason why I don't respect much you have to say on other issues. Just think before typing.

Based on things he's said recently about how he sees the team taking shape, Rodgers doesn't want 'wingers' or even wide attackers as such. He wants Enrique and Johnson to do all the work out wide. I imagine he's looking at having three strikers, two of whom will play either side of the central one, but ideally all three are interchangeable and can offer variety. That's why Sturridge is a good fit, and Walcott would have been if there'd ever been any hope of getting him.

With that in mind, ideally I'd want 40 goals from the three positions over the course of the season. That's the minimum of what we need if we're to be successful. Given that Suarez should be capable of getting 20, we need another 20 from whoever else fills those positions. As of now, we don't have anywhere near that.

Downing - 1

Sterling -1

Cole - 1

Have I missed anyone?

Agree with that. That's why I've been wanting Mertens (although, there's been very little link to him this winter. Nothing since the summer). Gameiro can operate in that system, too. The problem for me is that without players who are going to track back - like an ordinary wide man would be expected to do - then our defensive midfielders are going to have to really put in some work. When the fullback is up the pitch, we're going to need cover. Lucas can do that, the others don't really bother.

Where does Gameiro operate best?

From what I've see he's best centrally, but like Sturridge or Walcott he can operate either side in a three. Apparently he can drop in behind. I like that in players because it allows us to be versatile.

Personally, I see Suarez as the best candidate to replace Gerrard in a 4-2-3-1. I'd then have Sturridge to the right, Borini on the left and Gameiro up front. All interchanging.

Cheers. I've never seen him play.

And yes, I'd agree that Suarez is the ideal centre of 3 in a 4-2-3-1, O see that as his best position, with a pacy Striker in front of him.

Let's send Carroll to NUFC and get Ben Arfa...

Or we could go for : Sanchez/Cuenca/Holtby/Belhanda/Mertens/Diego/Walcott/aso.

Plenty of options out there : most of the above would make me happy

Ben Arfa on the left, Mertens on the right would be pretty good...
