Falcao to R. Madrid in the summer but the deal has already been agreed according to Atheltico Madrid chairman. Go for Higuin now?

15 million to expensive and he's a foreigner, would be wrong according to the our moneyball approach of buying young and British...

Apparently Belhanda in advanced talks with Fenerbahce over a EUR11 mill transfer - WTF - that's bang for the bucks or moneyball investing....

I've no idea... maybe? I doubt it' date=' but I've never watched him. I hope he's that good, though.[/quote']

A pointless purchase if I've ever seen one. Forget this defender and use the money to purchase a better winger than Ince would make a lot more sense.

Difficult to guess how much or little money we have for transfers.

We oughtta have quite a lot of room for wages though.

Adam, Maxi, Kuyt, Bellamy, Aurelio, Aquilani, Carroll left in the summer. That has to be a shitload more than what Borini, Allen and Assaidi earn. Obviously Agger, Skrtel, Suarez and Sterling got raises and now Sturridge have been added, but Cole is also off the books now. So realistically we should have plenty more room without coming all that close to what we've spent on wages over the last couple of years.

I wonder what that saving is, just speculating here-

Adam 60k

Maxi 80k

Kuyt 80k

Bellamy 60k

Aurelio 25k

Aquilani 80k

Carroll 50k (assuming WH aren't paying all of it)

Cole 90k

Total 525k per week minus say 7m in pay offs over 12 months = £390k per week

New signings and contract increases

Borini 45k

Assaidi 40k

Allen 60k

Sterling 25k

Agger 20k

Skrtel 20k

Suarez 60k

Sturridge 65k

Suso 15k

Jones 5k

Total 355k per week increase

Net 35k per week saving year one

180k per week saving thereafter

Given that I'm guessing all of the above numbers I might be a mile out. Still not as big a saving this year due to payouts as you might expect but still gives us more flexibility in terms of both wages and transfer fees moving forward.

As criminal as our previous contracts were, the owners are in for a big surprise if they think they can compete on a deficient wage bill.

Sure, ship out Cole at 90k a week - that is great. But that 90k is going to have to be used to pay for any other top talent you want to bring in next summer.

Our wage bill wasn't that exorbitant - it was just invested in the wrong players.

Something like that, though i think you are underestimating and over estimating in certain cases.

West Ham do pay all of Carroll's wages.

I dont think Assaidi, Borini and Allen earn as much as you estimated. Be surprised if Assaidi were on more than 20k and Borini 25k, i'd guess Allen on something like 25-30 as well.

FSG have been pretty much outspoken on them wanting to start low and if the players deliver offer raises. Like Suarez, who was on something silly before his new contract this summer.

I'd like to think that the club has now reached the point where it can stop paying off players (and staff) to leave and get the high wages off the books. The short-term hit for doing this has been very heavy over the past few years, but even though a number of players have been given improved contracts over the same period, I'd guess that the total wages commitment is significantly lower. My reason for thinking this is based on what FSG did with the Red Sox last year when they got rid of numerous high earners.

That, I just hope that they realize (and that is what they are trying to do), that they have to spend say 50k on one and 40k on the other younger player, instead the whole 90k on JC.

They are looking at Spurs and going by their wage bill. What they dont understand is that Spurs only had a chance of getting into top four in the end due to us imploding.

I would be surprised if they will pay 90k a week to anyone coming in.

Sorry, I missed the 's' on "talent". It was meant to be plural.

My point was that although they probably feel pretty happy about shaving shit loads off the wage bill, they've also left us with a very depleted squad (in quality and depth). So I hope they realise that all that money they've cut off (and rightly so) is going to have to be reinvested on better players.

That is why when I hear Brendan saying "our spending this year will be limited" and "this year is about balancing the books" it makes sense to me. We also have profited for our faux-sale of Carroll earlier this season, which we'll hopefully get next season.

Given that, I can see us spending a fair amount in the summer. Carroll £15m, Downing £12m, plus an increased transfer budget given the increased TV money.

I just hope we don't buy any squad players and actually invest in two/three real quality players.

Guest Numero Veinticinco
Reports that QPR are in for M'Vila at £6.5m. At that price he would be a steal.

We miss out on some cracking deals.

Yeah, problem being prices seem to go up several million once we are involved. Other clubs know, 'they are Liverpool they have more money than they are letting on, lets see how desperate they are'.

Anyway M'Vila at £6.5m looks very cheap and we'd be stupid not to enquire.

Rodgers, I'm going to give you the Joe Pesci in Casino head in a vice treatment if you don't get over your hard-on for buyng Brits or players you've worked with at those other dead end clubs and at least make an enquiry into this fella. We are getting overun in midfield.
