I think this is an excellant piece by Fanning, but I also think it will strike up some very good debate so I've posted it in its own thread. I didn't see it elsewhere on the MF, but I haven't really looked very hard to be fair. Shackles are off at Anfield, so abandon hope all who enter - Other Sports, Sport - Independent.ie Shackles are off at Anfield, so abandon hope all who enter The hopeless optimism of Liverpool's supporters vanished after defeat to Manchester City last Monday night. This was a good thing. Liverpool is no place for hopeless optimism. Or even hopeful optimism. Every time Joe Cole plays he gives another example of why only the deluded c…

Why do Journos and commentators etc, Refer to Liverpool's Financial problems when it Should be referred to as the "Purchase debt placed on the Club By George Gillete and Tom Hicks." Or the Financial problems caused by "David Moores, Rick Parry, George Gillete, Tom Hicks, Christian Purslow, Martin Broughton." The Famous six all contributing.

Saggy faced, corrupt, world-renowned wheeler and dealer 'Arry Redknapp takes great offence to be calling an err..wheeler and dealer. Absolutely fucking hilarious. Wonder if the press will make anything of it, or will it just be good ol' 'Arry avin a right larf? EDIT: Balls, beaten to the punch by Section. Just delete this one then, Dave.

I appreciate that we are currently operating with financial constraints, but I am nevertheless still disappointed at our lack of transfer activity. I still think we desperately need 3 players - a quality striker to cover Torres, a central midfielder to partner Meireles and allow Gerrard to play further up the field, and a wide player who can play on either flank and add pace, creativity and guile. Perhaps I shouldn't be surprised, but over a 12 month period we seem to have recouped more than we have spent and as a result I think we will continue to regress. It was obvious that our transfer plans were totally dependent on the sale of Mascherano, but I will stil…

According to Datasport, is apparently close to agreeing personal terms with Genoa over a £5m move. Football Italia - the Italian football website for English-speaking football fans Report: Genoa close on Insua deal Saturday 7 August, 2010 While Fiorentina failed to agree personal terms, it’s reported that Genoa are discussing final details with Liverpool’s Emiliano Insua. The full-back had been on the verge of joining the Viola before his wage demands prompted the Tuscan club to pull out this week. Genoa stepped in and, according to Datasport, the final negotiations are underway to complete the transfer. The Rossoblu have reached an agreement w…

As the MF seems to have branched out to include a few topics other than football, I thought it was high time we had a music thread. As befitting the exclusive nature of the MF it is dedicated to rarities, cheeky mashups and boss cover versions. I’ll start you off with this Prince Fatty cover of Cypress Hill’s Insane in the Brain. According to German media we have made an offer to loan him and pay all his wages but no loan fee. The player wants the move and Van Gaal thinks its a good move for the player but the Bayern board don't like the terms as i presume they want a fee. Here is the link and dodgy translation. FC Bayern: Liverpool verdreht Gomez den Kopf - Fussball Transfers FC Bayern : Liverpool Gomez turned his head 08/30/2010 - 11:51 - David Weiss Mario Gomez was not tired in recent weeks to stress that the coming season when he , in any case FC Bayern Munich wish to dispute . It's starting to take shape for the season now. Goalkeepers: Reina Cavalieri Gulasci Cavalieri always makes me nervous and to be honest I wouldn't care if he was sold and replaced with the linked Brad Jones. Although I'd be happy with Gulasci to be Pepe's No 2. Right Back: Johnson Kelly Darby (Carragher) We are completely sorted here in my opinion. I reckon Darby will leave on loan again though. Centre Back: Carragher Agger Skrtel Wilson Kyrgiakos Ayala (Kelly) I fully expect Kyrgiakos to leave. Ayala could even go out on loan maybe. I would like to see a quality centre half brought in but can't see it happening unless Skrtel…

Someone on the rattle is saying it's done for four million. Be gentle with me; I'm taking it with a pinch of salt, but I wondered whether we could have a civilised debate about it since it's a rumour that does not seem to be going away. Four million seems a lot for me for the quality of player. Is that really the best we can do? I see him as a solid option with experience in the league and he would have made a good backup if we weren't completely fucked for cash. If we're doing that deal, what does it mean for Insua? Has he finally found someone who will pay him the ridiculous money we must be? And also, if this deal and the Poulsen deal are not dependant on t…

Can't wait personally. Serie A finally kicks off this weekend. Udinese v Genoa to start it all off at 5pm. Been watching Wolfsburg v Mainz this afternoon. Wolfsburg 3-1 up. Dzeko got two and Diego scored on his debut, though he had the chance to set Dzeko up for his hat trick but took it himself instead. Cock. Morten Rasmussen got the goal for Mainz, who they signed from Celtic a few weeks back.

I tried to start this thread after one week but the hyperdrive went, so it has had to wait until now. How has your experience been of the new style TLW...12 days on? How has it changed your use and enjoyment of the forum? In what way? I found the duplication of topics and contributions on each forum a little difficult to follow at first, but I'm getting the hang of it.

Mine was back in the Souness managerial days, I thought I'd clear that up as far I remember there really weren't many on his playing days and his managerial career often overshadows what a wonderful player he was for us. Anyway, I digress. It was in the winter of 1993, Got beat by Bolton at home in the FA cup 2-0, Thomas got injured badly. I hardly ever went to aways as I was a poor school kid and had booze and fags to pay for. So missed two away wins inbetween. Then to compound it the next two home games were nil nils against Forest and Ipswich. Hardly even a shot on target in either game, really turgid stuff. This then followed up by the Mancs beat…

What 20 teams would you have making up the premier league if you could pick? Sort of like a European super league, but for English clubs. I mean, I would rather be playing Leeds away than Blackpool. And I would get more enjoyment twatting Forest 5 nil rather than Wigan. Using any criteria you like, past success, stadium size, support or whatever who do you think would be the best 20 teams to make up the league and make it more exciting? 1 Arsenal 2 Aston Villa 3 Birmingham 4 Cardiff 5 Chelsea 6 Everton 7 Fulham 8 9 Leeds 10 Liverpool 11 Manchester City 12 Manchester United 13 Newcastle United 14 Nottingham Forest 15 16 Sheffield Wednesday 17…

not a particularly knee jerk reaction to our start of season form, but more something ive been thinking about for the past 2 years, and am wondering what others opinions are i think its fair to say, that our style of football is pretty poor, we're neither a passing team, nor counter attacking, we play a very slow style of football, poor and very slow off the ball movement, and generally we're just way too lethargic on the pitch we've had the excuse of "we need more investment" for some time now but honestly, should the professional players that we pay big money to, not be more than capable of playing a more modern style of quick passing football? ok, i…

Skysports.com understands Liverpool are preparing a bid for PSV Eindhoven forward Ola Toivonen. New Reds boss Roy Hodgson has admitted he is keen to bolster his attacking options and Toivonen is thought to be top of his wanted list. Toivonen is regarded as one of the best young players in Europe after catching the eye for club and country in the last few years. The Swedish international only joined PSV in January 2009 and he has netted 24 goals in 49 appearances for the Dutch giants. Liverpool scouts have watched Toivonen in action on a couple of occasions and Hodgson is thought to have cast an eye over him as he scored in Sweden's win over Scotland last w…

Just read this on Football 365. (Sorry if its old news or posted somewhere else) CARRA TO GET NEW CONTRACT Roy Hodgson has confirmed Jamie Carragher will be offered a new contract at Liverpool once the club's ownership saga is resolved. Reds defender Carragher is into the final year of his current deal and plans for a new contract have been on hold because of the uncertainty surrounding the club's future under American owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett. Concerns have been raised that the 32-year-old centre-back, who was part of the England set-up during the World Cup, could leave after the current campaign but Liverpool boss Hodgson expe…
