I've just realised how many quality forumites are not ST holders. Let me sell it to you: we get our own cunt-free forum that is starting to take shape nicely. The football debate in there is (weird, I know) reasoned, reasonable, passionate and engaging. There's no bickering or abuse, no repetitive and dull threads where everyone says the same thing over and over again and generally a level of ownership that has been missing from the FF for years. You can also debate other stuff too, if you like. It really does feel like the forum used to feel back in the day. It's two quid a month, people. Not earth shattering by any means for the hours of entertainment many of you ge…

Just seen these on Twitter which are apparently the results of a channel five programme on Britain’s favourites. Every one of them offends me. Who would put a Jaffa Cake and Bourbons over a Tunnock’s? Blasphemy.

The nearest one to me closed down and it struck me that I hadn’t been inside in the last 16 years. So, how long?

Just a little thread for those of us who appreciate stuff at the other end of the scale from the more popular (on here, at least) rock side of things. So, to get us started, Gilles' show this week is a tribute to John Lucien and Max Roach who both died last week. It's jazz-tastic. Nice. http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/gillespeterson/index.shtml

Torture: The Guardian Protects Jack Straw There is, on the face of it, another in a series of very good articles by Ian Cobain in The Guardian, on complicity by the British security services in torture abroad. Sixteen MI5 and MI6 personnel are under investigationby the Metropolitan Police for their involvement in torture. MI5 faces fresh torture allegations | UK news | The Guardian The home secretary Jacqui Smith faces legal action over allegations that MI5 agents colluded in the torture of a British former civil servant by Bangladeshi intelligence officers. Lawyers for the British man, Jamil Rahman, are to file a damages claim alleging that Smith was complicit…

Biscuits. Lovely, filling biscuits. Everyone loves 'em, from the lowest tramp (resplendent with scruffy dog on a hairy string) to the highest Monarch. Poor kids at school used to smell like 'em, smiley mongrel dogs are routinely fed 'em, Grandparents have tins full of 'em. Biscuits, biscuits, biscuits.. So, what is your fave and why?

About 4 rashers of smoked bacon (fried or grilled) 2 fried eggs 2 sausages A scoop of baked beans A decent portion of mushrooms (fresh ones cooked in butter, not those briney things you often get) A few grilled tomatoes (not the tinned stuff) 2 slices of buttered toast Tea Orange juice That's it. No black pudding. Black pudding is congealed blood, and has no place on your plate. Also, no pipetting drops of fancy stuff onto the eggs, which I think I saw Heston Blumenthal doing when he tarted up the Little Chef Olympic breakky (not that I wouldn't mind trying his version of it, mind you).

Americans - Season 2 Epis 1+2 have been a but sloppy. I enjoyed season 1, but so far this is a 6.5/10. Hannibal - Season 2 I started off not loving the first season, but I went back to it and I was really glad I did. It finished off at around 7.5/10. Season 2 is better: it's worth a solid 8/10.

To my shame I say 'Boss' a lot, I also say 'Quality' and 'too right' far too much, and 'sound' as well (but only when talking about a person, not a thing). "I was in stitches" I say a lot too. 'Deffo' is also one of mine, and worst of all, I'm also known to say 'Ace' but only when preceded by the word 'fucking'. I don't have any catchphrases as such, although often when I start the car I find myself repeating a line from the Dudley Moore film 'Crazy People'. "Okay.....I'm going to run some caucassians down today."

Listened to this Guardian Podcast before : Guardian Focus Podcast: Examining the British far right | World news | guardian.co.uk In England the far right seem a bit of a joke, I can't ever see the BNP or EDL taking off seriously. But in the likes of France and the Netherlands, it looks like it is gathering more support. And unlike Nick Griffin, I get the impression a lot of people in, say, France see the likes of Marine Le Pen as a credible politician. So, what do you think of it then? Where is it going to end? Will we see another openly fascist country in Europe anytime soon?

It's gonna kick the fuck off again. https://edition.cnn.com/2021/04/12/europe/ukraine-zelensky-front-lines/index.html Ukraine's President heads to the trenches as Russia masses its troops EXCLUSIVE by Matthew Chance, CNN Updated 1152 GMT (1952 HKT) April 12, 2021 On the front lines in eastern Ukraine (CNN)Ankle-deep in thick black sludge, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky moves stealthily with his troops in single file through the warren of trenches and tunnels that form the tense front lines in the east of his country. It feels more like the early 20th century than a modern conflict, with tired, nervous …

Really heartbreaking story. One of my closest friends lost her brother last week and is obviously absolutely devastated. He has 2 young kids (age 4 and 7). I was talking to her yesterday and she was in tears telling me how they'd broken the terrible news to the children, specifically the 7 year old. I asked how he'd taken it and what he'd said and, still in tears, she told me the kid had replied "Can I have his phone?" I don't think I've ever struggled so hard to keep a straight face.

As a sister to the words I can’t pronounce thread, another chance to own up in a public forum to your inability to use the English language. This is for words that you thought meant something different to their accepted meaning. I will open the batting with “Morerish” I genuinely thought people were talking about Spanish architecture (Moorish) so when they said “sherbet lemons are very moreish” I had no fucking idea why. Mrs Willard regularly reminds me of this as evidence of my stupidity.

Y'know, just fucking boss tunes, tunes that you instinctively turn up to 11. Just had my iPOD on shuffle walking down the shops, and I got that immersed in "Life on Mars" i walked right past the fucking shop, and only realised about 150 yards further down the road. Other tune that can do that to me, "There she goes" by The La's, can get totally lost in that. Anyone else get this, or am i just fucking weird

I searched UFC and nothing came up so I'm starting a new topic. I'm watching 166 now, I've just watched the Melenzez V Sanchez fight and it was bloody epic! So entertaining, Sanchez always puts on great fights he's once crazy bastard. Check it out if you haven't seen it, slug fest! There has been some great fights this year, Jones V Gustavson was fantastic and there have been many more great fights this year.

It’s time we upped sticks and let the 2022 thread die. It’s never been more exciting to be a fan of the sweet science. Anthony Joshua is fighting Ngannou tonight and it’s just been announced that 57 year-old Mike Tyson is fighting that YouTube knobhead, Jake Paul, steamed live on Netflix. Seriously. This is the golden age.
