Hahahaha! Are you any closer to a title tilt then? Is the project not as big? Good to see you've dyed your hair in a desparate attempt to capture former glories.

he knew there were problems because of defenders injuries and he didn't have the bottle to ring McLaren and tell him he would play to help the country qualify and he's let us down again. Not only will Xabi almost certainly play now due to Gerrards injury but its on the official site that Cisse is travelling and might even play... Rafael Benitez this morning revealed that, whilst Steven Gerrard will not travel to Turin, the Club party will include Xabi Alonso and Djibril Cisse. Benitez revealed that while Cisse may not be even 70% fit he will travel with the squad and could even feature in the match at a late stage if Liverpool need to score a goal. Quotes from Rafael Benitiz to follow shortly. I'm not sure what to make of it, is it just the similar boost that seeing Alonso on the bench last week gave to the side?

Champions League winner Jamie Carragher sat down with TLW's Dave Usher in the summer of 2005 to talk about a wide range of issues from Istanbul, Mourinho, Dudek's wobbly legs, cramp, Everton tattoo rumours and much more. TLW: First of all, how does it feel to be a European Champion? JC: Oh brilliant. We were all saying at the time that we didn’t know when it would sink in, but I’ve been away for a few weeks and you get that many people coming up to you shaking your hand and congratulating you, so I think it’s sunk in now. I saw a lot of footballers while I was away and they were all coming up saying congratulations and that. It’s something I never thought wo…

Champions League winner Jamie Carragher sat down with TLW in the summer of 2005 to talk about a wide range of issues from Istanbul, Mourinho, Dudek's wobbly legs, cramp, Everton tattoo rumours and much more. Previously this interview has only been printed in the Champions League Winners Special Issue of the fanzine, but with Carra bringing the curtain down on his glittering career this weekend, we're publishing the interview online for the first time so everybody can read what he had to say. Enjoy! TLW: First of all, how does it feel to be a European Champion? JC: Oh brilliant. We were all saying at the time that we didn’t know when it would sink in, but I’ve been…

'It's a gamble'. There, it's said now. Just as it has been said also by a million other writers, tweeters, ex-players, pundits sports phone in hosts and callers. Statement of the painfully obvious agreed. If buying any player has an element of risk then only the most starry eyed optimist could suggest signing Mario Balotelli is a lock. The suggestion that the modest price tag for such a player of this talent makes this a shot to nothing misses the point: resale value is a secondary (though not unimportant) consideration which only comes into play if the real objective of delivering on the pitch for Liverpool fails. Given the aim is success on the pitch now rather tha…

“We’re half-way there.” Well, not quite. But any chance I get to fit a Bon Jovi lyric into an article and all that! Ah, Jon Bon Jovi…sorry, I need a moment… I suppose that in the glowing aftermath of an injury-time derby victory (Oh Mané!), it’s always easier to be upbeat! But in all objectivity, we are entitled to be upbeat, especially if you turn the clocks back precisely a year. December 20th, 2015. Anything special about that day for you? Need some help? Okay, so here are a few hints. Vicarage. Bogdan. Skrtel. Meltdown. Bullied. Out-run. Out-played. Out-thought. On that day, I didn’t know what to make of Klopp and where he was taking us. We finished the day nint…

Awol Adriano plans Bermuda break Up and down: Adriano has had a chequered career [AFP] Brazil and Inter Milan striker Adriano says he does not want to return to Italy after disappearing to the Rio de Janeiro slum where he was raised. The burly striker said he wanted to "live in peace, barefoot and in Bermuda shorts" in the notorious Vila Cruzeiro favela in the city. He said he was having a break from football for several months as he rethought his career. On Friday it was not yet known what action Inter might take over his absence. Paradise lost "I've lost the happiness of playing," the 27-year-old said. "I wouldn't like to go …

Just to make sure people know what was going on. -- Some background to what’s gone on so fuller conclusions as to what has transpired may be drawn by those who so wish. As you may have deduced the person I know at the club is Rick Parry. Our conversation on the Friday evening brimmed with anger and frustration at the situation that had developed over the preceding few weeks. What was absolutely certain at that moment was that Steven Gerrard would be joining Chelsea. He and his agent were desperate to push through the deal as quickly as possible. Rick’s concerted attempts at persuading SG and his agent that the player’s future would be better se…

Was that a helpful comment, Ian McCulloch? I don't know. I love Liverpool Football Club, and I've been as disgusted as the next man over what's happened under G'n'T, but I still think I'd be a little more upset if my whole family was raped, all at once, over a long period of time. I realise he might be 'trying to make a point', but a man over 50 years old should know better, shouldn't he? Interested to know what the rest of you think. It's not for me. Frankly, it's just been used against us, and to mock the whole video, as far as I can see. Who edited this and thought a comment like that would be great to include, FFS?

Generally it’s regarded a bad idea to try and run your football club based on the warbling of 1980s soul divas but it would seem that when Whitney Houston outlined her manifesto of believing that the children were our future, teaching them well and letting them lead the way it struck a chord with John Henry and the FSG boys. A policy of prioritising buying players with potential to develop and become something special has been the modus operandi around Anfield over the last couple of seasons. Critics of the policy, who see it as too frugal, too unambitious or just straight up poor strategy would no doubt see “it’s not right, but it’s okay” as a more accurate Whitney …

I’m never quite sure what to make of the ‘On this day in history’ concept. Part of me likes it, part of me doesn’t. While I love kicking back now and then to wallow in a bit of nostalgia, it can also be annoying to be reminded of just how good we used to be and how far we’ve fallen. A lot was made last week of it being 27 years since Ian Rush returned to Anfield from his year at Juventus. Now I remember this well. I can also tell you exactly how I found out. The 14 year old version of me was marooned in Girona airport, waiting to board the delayed flight that would end a two week family holiday with my parents in the moped infested Spanish mainland resort of Fenals, nea…

If there is one guarantee in football, it is everyone has got an opinion. He should go. He should stay. It’s the managers fault. It’s the coaching. It’s the owners. Why is he playing right back? We need a left back. We need a new striker. We need more players. It should be 3 at the back. Four-four-two. Diamond midfield. One upfront. We have heard it all and more this summer about Liverpool, and the opinions seem more diverse than ever after last seasons anti-climax. There are just so many questions to answer for Liverpool fans and strong opinions about what will go right or wrong are still alive and kicking. Everyone’s own opinion dictates their expectation. Socia…

Just been watching Watford 2-3 Liverpool from Jan '86, Rushie scores to put us 1-2 up and what do the away fans start chanting? "Are you Watching Manchester". Oh how I hated that 'chant'! the number of arguments/fights I got into over that stupid shit down the years is unbelievable, mates, strangers, gangs, fucking anyone who started that chant got an earful from me. Wasn't just me who hated it there were enough to finally get it banished from our repertoire. The people around started shouting down anyone who sang it cos I done their heads in that much! Hahahaha. Worse thing is they were fucking nobodies back in the day, in '86 it was our bitter buddies who were o…

1. BR has finally learned the lesson Mourinho and Pulis taught him a full season ago. Three clean sheets from three is superb, but it's the fact that we're clearly playing for them that's encouraging. I need to see much more evidence to believe we fully understand how to be obdurate, but there are obvious signs on show. 2. I'm surprised how cohesive we are with so many new additions and that's down to two factors: the focus of the players involved and their experience in this country (mostly). It bodes well for further development given time together. 3. James Milner was a great addition. He is so reliable and consistent and at a very high level too. He's the epitome of a…

...Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal" - Stan Collymore. Aren't you missing a team Stan? I'll give you some clues. They have won more European Cups than any other English team. They are England's more successful European Team, including in this millennium. More UEFA Cup wins than any other English team. You are constantly slating them in your Mirror column. Er, you played for them.

On August 3 Brendan Rodgers stated: “I can categorically tell you Mario Balotelli will not be at Liverpool”. Fast forward three weeks and here we are, with the unpredictable Italian on the brink of a move to Anfield for what looks like a bargain £16m. Opinion among the fanbase is split, so we asked three of our regular writers for their thoughts... I love the phrasing of this question because "on board" is exactly right. It's like being at Alton Towers as a Red right now: you step off one roller coaster and jump straight on board the next one because just as Luis Suarez goes, in comes Mario Balotelli. I'll say one thing for Brendao (copyright P. Coutinho), he certainl…
