Great article in today's Daily Telegraph Managing multiplies pressure by 10 By Alan Hansen (Filed: 08/12/2003) You might wonder what I know about the first-hand experience of managing a football club. Of the kind of stress that gives the strongest, most determined men heart problems. Well, I was sort of the Liverpool manager once - only for about 15 minutes - and it confirmed to me what I already knew. That this was not a job for me. When Kenny Dalglish resigned from Liverpool in Feb 1991 I drove home from the training ground listening to a radio report that said I was 6-4 on to replace him. My Dad and my brother, John, were telling me I had to tak…

LIVERPOOL INTERESTED IN CROATIAN YOUNGSTER Liverpool are said to be chasing Croatia Zagreb’s highly rated youngster, Goran Jnot, just turned 17. The youngster has been watched several times by members of the Anfield scouting system and newspaper sources in Croatia say that under fire Anfield supremo, Gerard Houllier is likely to swoop for the teenager in January’s transfer window before too many other clubs become aware of his availability. Barcelona and Milan are also said to be in the running for the highly rated youngster. Jnot, a forward hasn’t yet played for Zagreb’s first team, but experts have already put pressure on him by labelling him the new Dav…

As I was driving home from work tonight listening to Talksport, Tony Cascarino (yes, the famous Irishman!!!!) was talking about Rooney's weight problem. Wayne's uncle rang the show to explain that he wasn't fat, the kit made him look big and the camera makes him look fat. I've often heard from TV people that the camera makes you look 10LB heavier. This would explain why Wayne is deceptively skinny. Sky TV have about 12 cameras covering matches. If each one makes you look 10LB heavier then this explains why Wayne appears to be 20 stones when in fact he is only 12 stones.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Football fashions come and go. But one thing never changes......Everton are (in my opinion) among the worst set of fans following the most annoying club in English football. Today, as always, they were DEATHLY quiet barely busting into their brilliant "everton" chant....(you know....the one that goes "everton everton everton etc"). This has been exactly the same situation ever since i have been watching football ( i saw Trevor Francis debut so a while). Add to that the fact that, nearly always, they are a really average workmanlike team who somehow (usually jammiliy, sometimes dubiously) ne…

Out with the lads from my football team last night for our xmas piss up. Bumped into a few of the fulham players on the rip. Clarke, Vand de saar, hayles. It was a bit of a goalkeepers get together as Dave Beasant & Mark Crossley were with them. A few of the younger guys from the team were chatting to them. Nice guys apparently. Lee clarke was well pissed. Quite a few chicks hanging out of them. Perks of the job;)

That Tackle
by Luke- 2 replies

I sat next to Graham Poll on the plane home Sunday and told him he got a lot wrong on Saturday. I asked him why he didn't book Stevie G foor that tackle and he said that if that had been anywhere else on the pitch he would have booked him. But Poll reckoned that Stevie G didn't catch the player and if he had whistled then he would have been slaughtered as he would have had to give a penalty and send Stevie off when he didn't actually catch the player. Consistancy anyone?

Nobody has made this position their own. JC can play there but I'd prefer to see a natural left sided player there, same goes for Babbel. It's not Traore's best position and Riise is too inconsistent. A few questions I'd like to raise. Is there anybody coming through the ranks? How are Vignal and Warnock doing out on loan? Will Riise ever regain his top form on a consistent basis? What about that Konchesky lad that wanted away from Charlton? Any other left backs catch your eye?

It is imperative that Stevie G gets a grip. When I saw the two footed takle on Solano I said he's off. Unbelievable the ref did nout. I think the crowd missed it as it was a goal mouth melé. And as the ref reacted to the crowd all day (Ostemabor's booking for example) he then missed it. Had it happened in the centre circle the crowd and bench woulfd have exploded and it would have been automatic red for SG. Now I do not say this was anything but a fully committed attempt to block the ball. It was low and not over the top. The point is tho' you can't do it anymore and SG keeps on doing it. He must be responsible and stop now. It will only hurt the team. …

Of the 1-1 draw, which keeps Liverpool ahead of Newcastle and three points behind fourth-placed Fulham, Houllier added: "It was a good game. I enjoyed it at times. It was clearly a case of one team dominating the other, whereas at Anfield it would be the other way around. "I enjoyed the spirit, and I think both teams in the second half showed why people like football. The two teams wanted to go for the win. As Nelson would say........."Haaaa Haaaaaa" "The two teams wanted to go for the win." Priceless! Maybe they did, but only one of the managers wanted to go for it.

Before the Bolton game I attended my uncle's funeral, the wake was held in one of Everton's reception rooms (don't ask). I was told to park my car at the back of the Park End. As I drove into the car park at 15:30 the attendant told me to park over to one side as "The Liverpool supporters will be arriving soon and the main car park is reserved for them". A question came to my mind "Who are the reds who park their car at Goodison and keep these bastards solvent". Shame on you.:what:

http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/drilldown/N142954031207-0716.htm Nice idea but it will never happen. Amazing to think that we are still the most succesful club in England but there are no knighthoods in football connected with us. The Mancs have 3, I wonder why?

Red rivals chase Kezman Sunday, 07 December 2003 Both Liverpool and Manchester United are chasing PSV Eindhoven star Mateja Kezman according to officials from the Dutch side. The Serbo-Montenegrin international is one of the most sought-after stars around in Europe and United and Liverpool have been linked with moves for him before. PSV's technical director Frank Arnesen has now named Gerard Houllier and Sir Alex Ferguson as firm admirers of Kezman, and says that both the Reds and Red Devils are among the clubs clamouring for his signature. The 24-year-old bagged four goals for PSV on Saturday to enhance his reputation and Arnesen says that they wou…

Yeovil away:thumbsup: anyone got any info about these? One thing that springs to mind for me was a flag in the Anny Rd about 10 years ago when we played Bristol Rovers saying 'BRFC Yeovil Greasers', which made me laugh. I hope it's one of those Royston Vasey like timewarp towns.
