That was the Week that Was (Sep 9-14 2024)

    wtwheader.jpg

Monday Sep 9:

Kweev finally speaks honestly about his future. Usually he says nothing or he’s quite vague, but he’s clearly had enough now after the club signed Mamardashvilli and says he wants out. He also implied that he’s wanted out for a while but it hasn’t happened because we’ve turned down bids and have a high valuation of him. It didn’t come across as a complaint though (unlike Van den Berg) and was more of an observation. He didn’t seem bitter either, he just said the club have obviously chosen to go in another direction and as a result he wants to leave so he can play regular football.

The interesting thing for me is that no-one has even come close to meeting our valuation of him, which is reportedly between 30-35m. Not sure how we can justify asking more for him than we’ve paid for the guy we think is better than him, but regardless of that nobody has even come anywhere near that. I think 20-25m is a fair valuation, but Forest offered us £7m plus that American bum who is their third choice. That’s a fucking insult, but the point here is that we think Kelleher is boss but nobody else seems to agree.

I had this conversation with my dad recently when he asked why we were signing a keeper to replace Alisson when we already have “the best keeper in the world” ready to step in. If Kelleher was good enough to be our number one, how come nobody is willing to pay £20m for him? Are they all wrong? Is everybody in football wrong? My dad’s response to that was “yes they are” but for the sane and rational among us you have to think “this is why he can’t be our number one”. That doesn’t change the fact I think he’s boss and I’ll be sorry to see him go.

I don’t know, one loss and Dave’s tuning on Slot, probably to cover the embarrassment of watching Darwin’s lack of strength on the ball which led to the goal…

Agree with you Dave, 2 games a week of high quality and off tge back of international footy where most are playing and travelling you don't have to be fckin Einstein re rotation.

We have easily the best squad in the PL. So use it. Hopefully as you say that flat passive performance makes him realise that as Forest have set the template for playing against us now.

Think you raised the question pre the break wondering how we would go when we concede first, now we know.

Still think he will sort it out but has 6 strikers at his disposal now so very few excuses. Massive game now next week v Bournemouth thankfully Solankeless

Blaming Darwin for losing the ball on the edge of their box rather than Gakpo for being a pussy and not committing a foul to stop the counter. An interesting take.

We're four games into the season and already we've been definitely winning the league as City are getting a points deduction and now we're all concerned after a defeat that was similar to some of those in Klopps' "off" seasons.

We will likely finish top four and maybe have a run at one of the cups. Anything else would be a bonus in what is absolutely going to be a season of transition.

I've not seen the game but based on Chris's comments on the podcast it looks like you were right about Trent!

It is worrying that Slot seems to think he can replicate what he did at Feyenoord here. Another factor with the lack of rotation is that unlike us they rarely go far in major European competitions and aren't expected to.

I think this season might be more like Klopp's early seasons than Klopp's latter ones. It might take Slot twelve months to fully understand the task he has in hand.

The result may have been similar to some we suffered, but it's a LONG time since we looked that clueless and desperate when trying to come back from 1-0 down. The way Slot and the players (and the crowd) reacted to going behind was a massive red flag, way more so than the actual result, which can happen.
