Monday Oct 28:
Boooooooooooo! Goodnight Sweet Prince. Can’t believe they’ve finally done it you know, especially because they only lost at the weekend to a disgusting VAR intervention by that cunt Michael Oliver. Would they have done it if they’d drawn the game? Not sure, but if the answer to that is no then clearly “Sir Jim” hasn’t got a clue what he’s doing.
Then again, he not only kept him on last summer, he gave him a new contract which means he’s now having to pay him off, so I don’t think we need to worry about them suddenly becoming a competent, well run club. It’s still a fucking circus.
In other news today, how utterly pathetic and entitled are Real Madrid? Boycotting the Ballon d’Or because Vinicius didn’t win it is one of the most cringey things I can ever remember from a big club. I’m not in position to comment on who should or shouldn’t win, because I don’t watch Real Madrid and I actively avoid Man City at all costs, but clearly this is just ridiculous.
I never like to see City winning anything but I’m not going to complain about Rodri winning it because it’s about time they looked beyond goals when deciding who the best player is. Virgil should have one of these but because of the position he plays he had no chance. Trent saying the other day he wants to win one, yeah good luck with that lad. Not even a move to Madrid will get that for you. Plus there’s never going to be a season when he’s the best player in world football anyway.
But a defensive midfielder getting it is actually quite refreshing, especially in the absence of any clear and obvious winner. I get that its hard to overlook Messi or Ronaldo when they’re banging in 50 odd goals, but this ain’t that. Vinicius is putting up numbers not that much better than Darwin!
Think I’m wrong? Have a look at the numbers posted up by Vinicius last season. It does not scream out “best player in the world”. It’s his job to score and assist, yet have a look at this…
Players with more G/A in the league than Vini Jr (21) last season:
— Amos Murphy (@AmosMurphy_) October 29, 2024
Harry Kane - 44
Kylian Mbappe - 43
Cole Palmer - 33
Ollie Watkins - 32
Erling Haaland - 32
Artem Dovbyk - 32
Lois Openda - 31
Serhou Guirassy - 30
Lautaro Martinez - 30
Alexander Sorloth - 29
Mo Salah - 28

So 21 goal contributions in the league. Darwin had 19! Obviously Vinicius did a lot of damage in the CL, which they won, but it’s laughable how Madrid are carrying on. If he had won it I wouldn’t be saying it’s undeserved as he is a great player and he was a legitimate contender for the award, but this is not Messi or Ronaldo being light years ahead of the competition. So for them to be taking this so personally is embarrassing.
Especially given that Ancelotti got coach of the year. Now that is a disgrace because how can you go for anybody other than Alonso for that? Leverkusen should have boycotted it too if that’s now the done thing. Fuck Real Madrid. Cunts.
