Monday Nov 4:
A tweet from Mo that had strong Facebook ma vibes about it has everyone talking.
“Top of the table is where this club belongs,” the 32-year-old posted. “Nothing less. All teams win matches but there’s only 1 champion in the end. That’s what we want. Thank you for your support last night. No matter what happens, I will never forget what scoring at Anfield feels like.”
“No matter what happens”. Obviously that sparked a lot of speculation. There’s been all manner of guesswork going on but it doesn’t necessarily mean anything. The fact is he does not have a deal beyond this season and until that changes it means this is his last season, so “no matter what happens” relates to that. I don’t think it means he knows he’s leaving, it’s just his honest appraisal of the current situation. He can['t really describe it any differently at the moment can he?
Slot was asked about the post and seemed to find it all quite amusing, which I’m taking as a good sign as he doesn’t seem worried. “You interpreted it in a way that maybe other people don’t. I don’t look at Instagram posts of my players, I only talk to them which you can’t, which is the advantage I have. I am hoping he will make a post after tomorrow and on Saturday again. What he said with that, that is not important. For me what is important is how he plays and what he tells me when we have conversations. That is what matters and not how you guys interpret one of his posts.”
He’s right, obviously. We’re left to speculate over social media bullshit but he can actually just talk to him and find out what he’s feeling. It’s fucking scandalous though that the club has allowed this situation to develop with three of our best players and it’s casting a needless shadow over what is a great time for us.
In other news, the u21s won 4-1 as Kieran Morrison created three goals. He’s a boss little player him, probably 12 months away from getting a first team chance in the cups, but depending on who we draw he might get an FA Cup run out this year. Nyoni got on the scoresheet and Ranel Young scored twice. He was on the first team bench recently at Brighton and he’s having a good season since they switched him from out wide to a centre forward, so much so that his team-mates have started calling him R9. The mad thing is none of them were even born when R9 was doing his thing. How old does that make you feel.
Meanwhile, Amorim apparently wants United to “hijack our £90m move” for the Georgian lad at Napoli whose name nobody can pronounce, let alone spell. I see one major problem with that. As if we’re spending £90m on anyone. Edwards is back now so we can forget about that. I doubt Hughes would even have the balls to ask him even if he wanted to. That’s not the market we shop in. We’re more likely to go for Semenyo at half the price.
