That was the Week that Was (Feb 24 - Mar 2 2025)

Monday Feb 24:

What the fuck are Daniel Levy and the rest of the Spurs board playing at? Emailing all the media outlets to ask them not to refer to them as “Tottenham” and that it must be either “Tottenham Hotspur” or “Spurs”. Get the fuck out of here you precious, arrogant wankers. Apparently this is about “the brand” but honestly, just fuck off. No wonder Tottenham fans hate this cunt. Yes, that was deliberate and I’ll be referring to them as Tottenham until further notice, as will a lot of other people I expect. Modern football in a nutshell this.

As is this. That Ratcliffe cunt has laid off all the staff in the canteen at the training ground. Now employees will be given a “free piece of fruit” instead. I can’t even begin to explain how angry this shit makes me. He’s one of the worst people in the country. What an absolute fucking scumbag. The explanation is that the club is losing money so they need cut costs. United’s player wage bill is not far off £200m a year, but laying off the dinner ladies is going to wipe out their debts? This is the cunt who sacked Ten Hag and replaced him with someone who has made them worse. Ten Hag and his staff got a £10.5m payoff, that’s the kind of money they’re haemorrhaging but he’s sacking canteen workers and making staff pay for their own meals now in an attempt to fix things?

This is like being in massive debt due to having mortgages on three houses as well as six Ferrari’s on HP, but cancelling the Netflix subscription and hoping that makes a difference. He’s a despicable cunt and I hope he dies soon. I wouldn’t even wish him on Man United fans. I did initially, I thought it was funny, but now that he’s just fucking over regular workers like this, nah it’s utterly reprehensible and as I say, I hope he dies, the evil cunt.

I keep thinking though, how is he being allowed to do this without massive opposition? I hear some United fans condemning it on Talksport, and Goldbridge is always bringing it up, but if this was happening here it just wouldn’t be allowed to stand. We’d have shot that down immediately with protests the likes of which you’d never seen before. United are accepting this though, and how come the ex players aren’t making a big thing of it? *glares at Gary Neville*

Meanwhile, Carra is getting hammered for “disrespecting AFCON”. I mean, the hypocrisy here is fucking astounding. So many of the people ripping him for this wouldn’t watch an AFCON game if it was literally the only thing on telly. They’d go and walk the dog or something. Nothing Carra said was incorrect, but you have to be careful how you word things and if he could do it again he’d probably say it differently even if he stands by the basic point he was making. I don’t know why it’s so wrong to point put that AFCON isn’t on the same level as the World Cup, Euros or Copa America, because it’s a fact. It’s not on that level, just like League One isn’t the same level as the Premier League.

AFCON is a massive event in its own right but the quality is vastly inferior so it doesn’t get the same credibility. Anyone disputing that is either deluded or too scared of the backlash to say it. It isn’t talking down Africa, because the Asian equivalent isn’t top level either, nor is the CONCACEF, but obviously - like AFCON - they are massive tournaments that means a lot to millions of people. In Africa and Asia and Australia etc. Not here. Not throughout Europe and not in South America. Africans thinking AFCON should get more respect is fair enough. They’re wrong, but it’s only natural for them to fight their corner. So all these African players coming out of the woodwork and hammering Carra, ok, I get it, even though they’re completely misinterpreting what he said.

What I can’t be doing with is people who don’t actually give a fuck about AFCON who are now faux outraged at Carragher (and in some cases are throwing the racism card at him). Of course Rio Ferdinand jumped in again, the massive rent a quote cunt. There are few people in football I have less respect for than this tit. Next time he’s on telly I’d love someone to ask him to name the last three AFCON winners, who they beat in the final and who won the Golden Boot. Bet he wouldn’t have a clue. Ask him the same about the World Cup and Euros though, it’ll be a different story. Because it's not on the same level.

Gordon isn’t on the left wing in the final. Or even on the pitch.

It isn't written in hindsight.

Good report mate, cheers.

Radcliffe is such a cunt, and yes, don't get why he's not being publicly vilified.

Millwall fans chanting 'Let him die' to Mateta was evil as well.

Bonus entries, that really is the work of the hardest working guy in football. Almost live comments is great work and even though it makes me sound like the biggest suckhole since errrr, someone sucked a hole I'm glad I paid my subs the other day.

Just seen they're probably appealing it. If that gets overturned it's purely for the benefit of the TV audience to try to make the final competitive, as that's a clear red card.

Claiming that Nunez and Trent are the most harshly judged players is astounding.

I’ve never seen a player get consistently cheered for less than Nunez. Salah has to score or set a goal up to get his name sung, Nunez gets it for closing down someone.

Trent has better press than any Liverpool player since Owen. MOTD segments invariably focus on him, while both pundits and journalists gush over him.

Who said most harshly judged?

I said the most scrutinised.

You said it.

In the article above.

From the moment he walked through the door he’s been subjected to more scrutiny and he’s been more harshly judged that any Liverpool player I can remember other than Trent, who actually gets it more I’d say.

Expecting the hardest working man in football to remember every little thing he’s ever said is what I call harsh judgement.

Ferdinand is so jealous of Carragher it’s hilarious to watch.  You can tell behind the scenes he will be saying to all his little gremlin mates “I won all this and that and he only won the champions league.  Why is he the flagship pundit for Sky?  It should be me” etc.  any chance he gets he has digs at him so no shock to see him comment on the AFCON thing and then to complete misquote him as well.

Its funny how him and Terry hate each other and they’re the two biggest snowflakes in football.  If I was Carragher I’d just keep mentioning how Van Dijk is the best centre back in premier league history.  That seems to be the thing that gets to him most.

Completely off topic but sticking to manc pundits.  One thing I didn’t expect to happen was to find out how sound Scholes is.  Him and Carragher are really good together on the fan debate.  He did a few podcast episodes with Nicky Butt that are worth a watch as well.

Not going back to to read through it as I'm a busy man, so I'll take your word for it and assume that isn't a fake quote.

I stand by it though. The 'harshly judged' applies to Nunez, while Trent is the only one who is more scrutinised. And if you think all the press Trent gets is positive then fuck knows what you're watching.

I agree it doesn't apply inside the stadium though, where Nunez gets fantastic support and (for the most part) so does Trent.
