That was the week that was (Apr 27 - May 4 2020)

Tuesday April 27:

Ah eh, Michael Robinson has passed away. I don’t remember much about him as a player. He was only here one season and I was only 10 or 11 at the time. The thing that stands out about him to me is that although he was only here a short time, you can tell how much of an impression the club had on him because he spoke about it as well as anybody.

Souness was a good mate of his and he gave a heartfelt tribute to Robinson on Sky. He was getting quite emotional towards the end of it and you could see him struggling to keep it together. I then scrolled to the comments and it was mostly overseas United fans making cracks about it somehow being Pogba’s fault.

The fuck is wrong with people? I’m not just talking about United fans here, it’s people in general. Someone dies and people think it’s fine to start making stupid fucking tribal comments. Twitter is a cesspit, but it’s only a reflection of people in general.

In lighter news today, Big Nev said on twitter that Boris Johnson is ‘the Mike Walker of politics”. Bit harsh on arl Mike that, but we can all see where the big fella is coming from.

It’s mad how old rivalries can often be put to bed as soon as a player retires. Not Southall, as I always kind of liked him anyway, in a grudging kind of way. I didn’t know back when he was a player what a sound fella he was, but I liked him because he was such a great keeper and never gave me any reason to not like him, other than being so fucking good.

Peter Reid is another. I didn’t particularly like him but I respected him because of the way him and McMahon went to war with each other but always kept it sporting. There are quite a few others I hated though who I now think are somewhere ranging between alright and sound.

Lampard is one. I think he’s alright but I fucking despised him in his Chelsea days. Ian Wright too. He was a knobhead when he was a player but I really like him these days. Proper sound fella.

Then there's Gary Neville. I’m not sure I’d go quite as far as to say he’s ‘alright’ but I don’t actively dislike him anymore. The biggest about face I’ve done though is without doubt on Cantona. He’s fucking boss, I love him. It’s almost like he never even played for United now. When I look at him, I don’t see the collar turned up, arrogant fucking wanker who turned United around and inflicted years of misery on us. I see a sound fella and proper funny bastard who I'd love to spend time in his company.

Meanwhile, I saw this today. It’s from a few weeks ago but I never read it at the time because any time I see something Damien Commoli related on the forum or twitter it just makes me roll my eyes and keep scrolling. I saw a link on the forum today and didn’t realise what the article was about, but even though it was the usual waffle from Commoli justifying his mistakes, I’m glad I read it because of this little anecdote:

"I was talking to Arsene Wenger after Liverpool lost to Barcelona (in the Champions League semi-final last season) and asked him what he'd do. He said 'the first person I'd put on the teamsheet is Jordan Henderson because he is the soul of that team and will refuse to give up and could carry the team on his shoulders in the second leg'. That's exactly what happened." Add Wenger to the list of people who are fucking ace now that they aren’t competing against us.

Still, some cunts will always be cunts. Like Michael Ball, perhaps the bitterest of all bitter blues. He wants the season voided like the Dutch are thinking of doing. Course he does, I wouldn’t expect anything less from this fucking turd. He’s an utter embarrassment. I know some of our former players are a bit cringe, but do we have anyone as bad as him? Dean Saunders maybe, but other than that I’m struggling. Hamann too I suppose, but I’m not sure there is a more embarrassing twat out there than Michael “Klopp’s celebration showed how worried he is about Everton” Ball. Cunt.

Wednesday Apr 29:

The Anny Rd development is on hold for ‘at least’ a year. On one hand I get it. The financial situation in football is going to be uncertain for a while, plus we don’t know how long it will be before we’re allowed to go to games again. Even when we are allowed back, it might not be like it was before. Maybe it will be reduced capacity and social distancing?

So yeah, it makes sense to put the expansion on hold, but it would also make sense to do it now. It would cause the minimum disruption in terms of reducing capacity while the work is done, because they might actually get it finished before we’re allowed to play in front of crowds again.

Ultimately though, what the fuck do I know about it? It’s easy to say “do it now while there’s no footy” but there are probably all sorts of logistical reasons why that’s not feasible. What if there’s a second wave and another lockdown, and work has to be suspended on it?

Thursday Apr 30:

Some reports today reckon the French authorities are trying to get the other big leagues to follow their lead and call time on the season. If that happened, we’d be Champions, but fuck knows what would happen to the likes of Sheff Utd and Villa who have played a game less than those around them and still have everything to play for. You can’t relegate Villa when they’ve played a game less. Not even I would do that and few people have a worse opinion of Villa than I do.

Getting really sick of all this shit now. I’m perfectly fine with waiting as long as it takes before bringing football back safely, but only if they’re going to do it the right way and complete this season. Any other scenario is unthinkable, even ones that still have us winning the title.

Meanwhile, former England keeper Paul Robinson has some high praise for Harvey Elliott, whom he described as ‘the best teenager in the world’. Nice that, except he isn’t even the best teenager at his own club. Harvey is boss, but Curtis Jones is clearly far superior at the moment. So he should be, he’s two years older, but I’m just saying.

Friday May 1:

Steve Nicol says we shouldn’t be handed the title and that the season should be played out. He got hammered for that, but he’s right. The problem is that if it isn’t played out, then what Steve? It might not be what he meant, but comments like that will be used by the ‘null and void it’ camp.

If they don’t finish the season then the title has to be awarded to us because we’ve earned it. We’re the most dominant team in the history of the game at this point in a season. The lads have earned that title, they wouldn’t be ‘handed’ anything.

I mentioned this the other week, I’ll always love ‘Chico’ for what he did as a player (one of the best ever) and because he stuck up for me on ESPN TV after the Barca away leg, but generally speaking it would be best if he just didn’t speak.

Likewise Joe Anderson, the Mayor of Everton, sorry Liverpool. It’s easy to get that confused, especially when he’s coming out with shit like this:

"Even if it was behind closed doors, there'd be many thousands of people who would turn up outside Anfield. I think it would be really difficult for the police to keep people apart and maintain social distancing if they were going to celebrate outside Anfield, it would be farcical. It's difficult for us to try to stop people gathering in parks when the weather has been good, especially young people. And I fear people would just ignore it."

What a dickhead. Cheeky fat bastard. This is massively insulting. I'd expect it from some fucking Tory Mayor of London dickhead, but he's meant to represent us, the big thumb looking heffer.

At most you’d have a couple of dozen dickheads showing up at Anfield and it’s insulting to suggest otherwise. We don’t need telling, but if the club wanted to ensure no-one showed up all it would take is one interview with Klopp telling people “don’t be dickheads” and Anfield would resemble a ghost town, or better yet, a Man City trophy parade.

Anderson is lumping us in with those thick cunts in America demanding to be allowed to do whatever the like. LFC must be livid about it as they immediately put out a strong statement. Not strong enough in my opinion, as a simple “shut up Chippy Tits” would have been more appropriate.

Saturday May 2:

The Scottish kid Billy Gilmore has irritated Chelsea fans by wearing a Liverpool shirt. He swapped with Robbo when they beat us in the cup and he says he’s been wearing it around the garden during lockdown. Love that, it’s boss. I wouldn’t love it if I were a Chelsea fan like, but Robbo is his national captain and a working class hero. Not that I’d expect Chelsea fans to put much stock in that.

Also today, numerous reports claim that we won’t be spending any money this summer due to the uncertainty hanging over everything now. Makes sense really, but it’s the same for everyone and we’re in a much better situation than most, as we don’t really NEED anything. Any player we add is almost a luxury at this point.

We won’t have much to spend if we’re paying wages and not having any money coming in, but then neither will anyone else. Except City, who will just use this as an opportunity to further ignore FFP and go on a mad spending spree. For everyone else though, cloth has to be cut accordingly.

We might sell a few, like Lovren and Shaq, but the problem now is their values will have plummeted because of the new market conditions. In theory though, just getting them off the wage bill and replacing them with Hoever and Wilson would save us a fortune. A lot of difficult decisions are going to have be made once this season is eventually over, but thankfully we’re in such a strong position that we should come through it relatively unscathed.

One player we are still being linked with though is the young centre half at Leeds. He’s on loan from Brighton and I’ve read a couple of times now that we’ve had a scout watching him in every single game this season. Maybe that’s who they bring in when Lovren goes?

Sunday May 3:

Speaking of the devil, there were some interesting quotes from Lovren today regarding the lockdown and how it’s a struggle. Some of it was from a mental health standpoint and how it’s difficult, but the bit that really grabbed my attention was his take on training and how it’s basically shit and not really helpful.

Yes, the sessions they’re doing keep them in good physical shape, but there’s absolutely nothing that can be done to keep them in football shape. When footy comes back we’ll probably see  load of injuries and a level of play that’s vastly inferior to what we’re used to.

I don’t really care about that as we’re so far ahead it won’t make a difference to us, I just want it played to a conclusion. I did think it was interesting though as it’s not something I’d thought too much about before.

Of course Dejan got slated on social media for his comments. If any other member of the squad had the same there would have been virtually no negative reaction, but because it’s Lovren his words were taken out of context and used as a stick to beat him with. I got your back, big fella.

Monday May 4:

Ok, now I don’t. Not even I, one of Lovren’s most staunch supporters, can stick up for him after his latest comments.

He’s outed himself as an anti vaxer and he reckons corona is a hoax that was created so we’ll all get vaccinations and those vaccinations will contain microchips. He reckons Bill Gates is behind it. It’s all gloriously bonkers, apart from the non-vaccinations of his kids, which is just really irresponsible.

I’ve always had Dejan’s back. I even stuck up for him and argued his corner when he said he was one of the best defenders in the world (because in that 6-8 month period he was), but sorry Dejan, you’re on your own now son.

Tell you what though, the group yoga session today will have been fun. Imagine Robbo and Milner once they got wind of all this! I reckon Kloppo probably laid into him as well. I mean fucking hell Dejan, you really don't help yourself sometimes.

…..and that was the week that was

I never had a problem with Ian Wright- always seemed to give his all for the cause.

He was far too happy to play the clown when he started working in punditry and came across as a twat.

But listen to his dessert island discs podcast and the Colin Murray at home one and you can’t help have a different opinion of him.

Given the wealth of twats in punditry never really found him offensive (less so than some of our ex players)

I didn’t find him offensive, not in the slightest. Just shit.

Maybe I shouldn’t mention it but it came across as though there was almost a racial element in the ‘type’ of his role on panels.
