Premier League Round Up (Mar 8-10 2025)

    roundupheader.jpg

With the Reds running away with at the top and the bottom three all being so shit that none of them have a hope in hell of saving themselves, it isn’t exactly all to play for in the Premier League. The extra CL place that England is getting does make things interesting though.

10th placed Fulham are only 5 points off a CL spot, while Arsenal seem to be the only side (apart from us, of course) who are comfortable in their CL qualification. Forest have been up there all season but it’s closed in on them and they went into the weekend’s clash with Man City only one point ahead of them.

Defeat for Forest would have meant that they would have fallen behind City and Chelsea, while they’d have only been three points ahead of 8th placed Villa. So that game at the City Ground was fucking massive for them, and they got the job done.

It basically went exactly as Nuno Holy Spirit would have drawn it up. Let City have the ball, keep them at arm’s length and break at pace when the opportunity is there. If my life depending on getting this scoreline right, I think I’d still be here writing this as a 1-0 Forest win seemed the most likely outcome.

City are still shit. They’ve had better results of late and they’re clearly not the absolutely shambles they were a couple of months back, but they’re not good and the way they play makes them perfect opponents for Forest at the City Ground.

City had barely produced anything and then as the game approached the closing stages and it got a bit stretched, Forest started to pick them off. Hudson-Odoi almost scored with that exact same goal that accounts for 90% of his career strikes, but Ederson tipped it onto the post. It’s a great save that, but he undid his good work by then getting beat on his near post by Hudson-Odoi.

You know what’s really funny? Chelsea sold Hudson-Odoi to Forest for £3m. How do you explain that? Nobody in the top flight ever sells a player for £3m these days. It’s rare that any fee is less than £10m, but £3m for Hudson-Odoi feels incredibly random, not to mention stupid. But it’s Chelsea, stupid is what they do when it comes to transfers.

Chelsea remind me of me back in the day when I’d come in after a night out and fire up footy manager for an hour before going to sleep. Then I’d wake up the next day and see some of the daft shit I’d done and have to go back to a previous saved version to undo it. Chelsea don’t have that luxury. Someone is defo looking at £3m received for Hudson-Odoi and then looking at the billion quid they’ve wasted on mostly shite.

Here’s a fact for you that if you haven’t heard it this week it will almost certainly shock you. Man City have lost as many games this season as……

Everton.

He's had a strange month or two, but Cunha previously only had 13 yellows and no reds in 75 appearances for Wolves so maybe he is not quite a loopy as it seems.
