Premier League Round Up (Apr 19-23 2025)

    roundupheader.jpg

Everything is more or less settled now at the top and bottom, but the fight for the Champions League spots is going right down to the wire and you’ve got five teams fighting for three spots.

It’s the only thing worth following between now and May, and while I have my own preferences for which three make it, given the fact I don’t like any of them I know I’ll be able to take satisfaction in the misery of the two who miss out. That and the fact we’re Champions.

Arsenal aren’t going to relinquish their grip on second but Forest looked like they were in a bit of trouble and shitting the bed at home to Everton last week. Fortunately for them, Doctor Spurs was on hand to make it all better. You couldn’t wish for a better opponent right now if you need to win a game. And I say that with the full knowledge we need to beat them this weekend to secure the tie. Usually I don’t tempt fate like that, but it’s Spurs. If we don’t beat them at Anfield in a game that really matters, we don’t deserve the title. I expect us to destroy them.

But anyway, back to Forest. They’ve been third for most of the season so it would feel harsh on them if they slipped out of the top five at this late stage. But they went into their game on Monday night in 6th place and it was a must win game. Fortunately for them, they were playing Spurs.

Elliot Anderson put them ahead with a deflected shot from 20 yards. Doesn’t look good from the keeper, but the deflection does it make it tricky and I’d probably give him a pass on that one. He’s one of the only Spurs players who can hold his head up this season.

He does NOT get a pass for the pitiful effort he made on the second goal however. Coming out and getting nowhere near a ball that Wood headed in. Looks like he had Shilton’s concrete boots on there, although Wood is a good foot taller than Diego. Then again, I doubt Wood was powered by whatever Diego in his system so swings and roundabouts.

If you give Forest a lead you’re in trouble If you give them a two goal lead you’re in big trouble. And if you give them a two goal and you’re Spurs, yeah you’re done.

Spurs had plenty of chances but most of them fell to Richarlison and he wasted them. He did eventually score at about the tenth time of asking but it was too little too late. They might be better off playing an actual pigeon up front.

He left Everton to go on to bigger and better things, and the Blues have continued to stink since he left. Yet he somehow finds himself below them in the table anyway. No wonder he still kisses up to them every time he goes back. Probably wishes he’d never left, on reflection.

Fullkrug needs to take his team mates into a phone repair shop to get them sorted out. New batteries and updated software all around.

Left footed but unlike most lefties he can use his right to a decent standard too.

In his prime, knows the league, great athlete, can score and assist with both feet.

If referencing DVD's makes you old, what does referencing Ray Reardon make you? Answers on a postcard (ask your grandparents etc).

Not an age thing, just a snooker knowledge thing. I went with Ray Reardon as he was the master at strategy and getting snookers. He taught O'Sullivan all he knows, so I wanted to give a nod to the old master.

The highlights of the Arsenal v Palace game are worth watching for Mateta's goal to make it 2-2. Instinctive strike by a natural goalscorer, you would enjoy it Dave.

Seriously, are DVD's still a thing though? Do clubs still bring them out at the end of the season?

No, and my son can’t handle it .
