Tottenham Hotspur 3 Liverpool 6 (Dec 22 2024)

    image.jpeg

I think that game went pretty much how it should have done. By that I mean when we’re thinking about what should happen against a team that plays the way Spurs do, this is it. You watch how wide open they are, how naive they are, and think “if we’re on it we’ll fucking take them to the cleaners”. We were, and we did.

Six goals was the minimum we should have come away with really. It could easily have been more, probably should have, but we visibly eased off at 5-1 and that kind of skewed the result a little bit. Before that, Spurs weren’t in it. We utterly dominated the game up until we got the fifth goal, and then we got sloppy and Spurs decided to salvage some pride instead of just taking their lead from us and letting the game peter out.

Once we realised they weren’t going to just lie down, we knuckled down again and put Spurs back in their box. If we hadn’t taken pity on them at 5-1 this could have gotten really out of hand, but the ungrateful fuckers didn’t take the hint and they’re lucky we only scored six.

We’re getting loads of praise for this performance and everyone seems to be talking us up for the title now. It’s almost like this game has made all of the pundits throw the towel in and concede the title to us. I don’t feel any differently now than I did before. I enjoyed seeing what we did to Spurs, but I don’t think it means anything other than three points, and I think the game says far more about Spurs than it does us.

I’m not downplaying what we did, I just don’t think it’s the big deal that a lot of others do. Frankly, in my mind there was no way that Arne Slot was not going to make mincemeat of Postecoglu and his schoolboy mentality. One of the few problems we’ve had this season has been sluggish starts that have occasionally been a result of the opposing coach doing something completely different to what they normally do. We’re really fucking good, so any coach worth his salt knows they need to change things up to try to disrupt whatever plan Slot has come up with.

Here’s the thing though; Postecoglu won’t do that. He won’t change no matter what, because “this is what we do, mate”. I always go back to this, but the moment I knew this fella was a fraud was when he went down to nine men against Chelsea and still carried on playing exactly the same way. Afterwards he said even if they only had five men he’d still play that way. And that’s why you’ll fail.

So when I saw they were unchanged from their win over United on Thursday, I knew this was a game we should be winning easily if we showed up. They had a day less than us to prepare, most of our lads were nicely rested and there was a massive mismatch between the two coaches.

The Guardian’s Jonathan Liew ripping you off Dave. ‘Obviously Radu Dragusin- who here looked like a boy band member playing centre half in a Soccer Aid game…’

Perfect match report Dave ! That was a thrilling game and a wonderful performance. Robbo was good indeed, and we humiliated a good Spurs team but our display at Leicester that day was something else, that night the son and I knew we were to be win the league. Roll on, but United is too soon to be the game it’s done.

Give some pen to some lads and get the contracts signed. Bordel de merde.

Merry Christmas all.

We have all been talking about statement wins and performances, Leverkusen, Madrid and City were great but all at home. I,  like most, expected a win (backed 4.0) but the performance for the majority of the game was flawless and let the pundits talk us up, let us get in the opposition heads.

I expected a title challenge this year always said it, not hope, expect, this squad went close last year with a damn site more injuries than Arsenal have now. So if we are tinkering and subtle rotation and Mo stays fresh (big loss him last season after afcon) then I honestly believed that we would run city down. It certainly won't come to that this season, so agree time to turn up the heat on the opposition.

I think Klopp was an "unlucky" manager who's genius and desire drove our success, "losing the league at Everton". Would be nice to Win it there assuming the rearranged fixture is April time. Completely fuck them over...

Maybe Slot will be a "lucky"manager as well as looking top class so far.

Loving it.

Merry Christmas

I struggle to think of a win at Spurs as any more than an almost guaranteed 3 points against a chaotic group of players who are not being coached properly.   Had every player been off form, we could have lost against them, but that would have required some sort of implosion that was not going to happen.  We had enough players in good form, and enough of a gameplan to win comprehensively.

The next three games will be more indicative of where we are as a team.

The 2019/20 season was something different, we had only lost points once before Christmas.

That game on boxing day against Leicester just reinforced our position.

Leicester was never going to follow up their position all season, and as we know they fell apart the last part of the season.
