Liverpool 2 Real Madrid 0 (Nov 27 2024)

    matchreportheader.jpg

Well that was fucking brilliant. What a performance. From start to finish we dominated Real Madrid and but for that Postman Pat looking goon in goal this would have been a mauling for the ages.

We’ve had a lot of wins already this season, but some of us have been wondering when the “statement win” that would really put the stamp on this now being Slot’s era was going to come. You could have previously argued that it already happened with Leverkusen, but I don’t think you can make that argument now after this. Leverkusen was great but this was another level, because of who it was and how we did it. Beating Real Madrid so comprehensively in front of a raucous Anfield crowd, THAT is his statement win.

We’ll remember this one for a while. Doesn’t matter that it was a group game. Doesn’t matter that they had a few players missing. It’s Real Madrid, our bogey team, and they still had some of the most famous players in the world in their line up.

“Real are down to the bare bones” McManaman kept saying. Bare bones of Courtois in goal, Rudiger in defence, Modric, Bellingham and Camavinga in midfield plus Mbappe up front. Yeah bare bones.

Vinicius Jr will have been watching this thanking his lucky stars for that injury so he didn’t have run the gauntlet of Bradley and Konate. Maybe he saw it coming and cried off! Had Vinicious been playing, Mbappe would have been in a different role, probably centre forward. The one time he ventured into that area Van Dijk hit him so hard he literally ended up standing on his head. Go and look, there are photos to prove it!

Mbappe has struggled since moving there and the excuse was that he wasn’t getting to play in his preferred left wing position. Well here was his chance to shine, and what happened? Conor Bradley bullied him and stole his lunch money.

We lusted after Mbappe for years. Not just the fans, Kloppo too. He was the ultimate fantasy signing, the one "if only we could get him". You know what though, I'll say it. He couldn’t play for Liverpool. He doesn’t have what it takes. I’m not talking about talent, obviously he has the talent to play in any team, past present or future. He’s ridiculously gifted both technically and physically.

He’s a lazy cunt though and he’s not someone you want in the trenches. I know I’m biased, but give me my boy Darwin all fucking day. He’s a Liverpool player, because he works his fucking arse off and he feels it. He’s emotional, passionate, and puts the team first. Disagree all you want, that’s fine, you’re allowed to be wrong and I won’t hold it against you as we’re all friends here.

We’ve seen Mbappe at Anfield a couple of times now and he’s been shite. The first time, with PSG, he was a fucking disgrace. Standing around, never chasing back and trying to outdo Neymar for the “biggest preening tit on the pitch” award. This time I don’t even think it was that. He didn’t do any defensive work but at least when he had the ball he was trying hard to make things happen. He just couldn’t do it because Bradley and Konate were right up in his shit the entire night.

Kweev's interview at the end when asked what he was thinking when he saw that it was Mbappe who was taking the penalty was ace. I paraphrase but basically he said 'i don't really give a fuck who's taking it'. I absolutely love that lad.

Performances like that wake my Turkish neighbours up.

This new goalie we've signed really must be special if we're prepared to let Kelleher go. I haven't even been bothered to go on YouTube and see his best bits. Personally I think the transfer boys have fucked up. Kelleher has the ability to do what all great keepers do, stand round not being tested then pull a top save off.

Is something missing here Dave?

Had to read that last sentence a few times before I understood you were describing Gakpo’s goal.

Made me think something was missing.

Also thought it was worth mentioning the soft yellow for Mac Allister, since the ref totally ignored a much worse foul by Modric a minute later.

My 10 yo grandson loves MCrappe.

The way he plays at U11 is exactly the same. He plays striker but can come in off the left, great pace good finisher skilful and in his little career had 200 goals and Assists in 110 games.

But what a lazy cunt, drives me mad!

Great report Dave.

McManaman is from the Carragher school in that he seems incapable of talking and breathing at the same time.

More like talking and thinking at the same time.

Bradley had to be MOTM obviously, he was very good.

I think the plan was to target Modric with Bradley and the little Croatian did not the legs to cope with it.

That was great and more Klopp than Slott ball, but I stay calm, we beat a team that have lost three times in five game vs Lille and Milan.

Letexier is the best French referee, make what you want of it ….

I got the impression, first half anyway, that UEFA had reminded the referee they can’t afford for Madrid to be knocked out. I think, after he awarded them a soft pen he felt, “ fuck em, I can’t do any more”.
