Brighton 3 Liverpool 2 (May 19 2025)

    matchreportheader.jpg

I contemplated just posting a photo of a beach instead of bothering with a report. No-one is arsed anymore, are they? Slot going off to Ibiza, the players spending the week in Dubai, the “Summer of 66” party, fans in the away end not giving a shit about the result and just singing and dancing the night away… nobody is arsed so I guess I shouldn’t be either.

There’s a part of me that’s uneasy about how it’s gone since we clinched the title but life’s too short to be bothered by it. We’ve won the league so I’ll focus on that rather than what has been happening since we won it. I started to get a bit wound up in the closing stages of this game when we went 3-2 down and didn’t seem to be showing any urgency to try and get an equaliser, but I stopped myself as what’s the point? It’s over, we won.

I’m like a broken record here, but the reality of the situation is that no matter how hard you try to be professional, and no matter how much you tell yourself it’s important to finish the season strongly, it’s impossible for players to be at their absolute maximum when there’s no jeopardy involved and the stakes aren’t high.

Sky will be happy as the "battle for 8th" narrative can reach fever pitch now.

Least it's done.

Sunday too pissed up teams for the curtain raiser to the curtain raiser game.

Bring on an attacking entertainment trophy lift and parade (with Klopp)

Come on Dave one more effort then the hols.....

I stopped playing PL fantasy once we won it but I still read your report. You can’t let us down, Dave.

Honestly that was entertaining like a preseason game. We could have won but did not deserve it.

Let’s get some new players, bitte !

Listened to the pod.

Been listening to Aldo meets podcasts last few days  Nov 23 Dirk was the guest, and doing his badges etc  then he mentioned Arne, who was appearing on a footy show like MNF I  Holland and the other guest was Van Basten.

He was some coaching big wig with FIFA I think. Dirk said Arne set off talking about players tactics style set, up the lot, the camera moves to Van Basten who is just open mouthed at how fckin smart this guy was, literally said nothing in the whole show.... before anyone knew who he was Dirk was stating one to watch, sounds like a porn star name now our star.

As you all mentioned he has taken a team where Jurgen and Pep have decided to be a bit more patient and go for more control, Arne has come in  made in game tactic tweaks, got us over the line in games and to a title with him wanting (it feels like) to flood all over teams like Jurgen did.

Going to be a great summer.

As you say it's all about next week and can't wait for the party! Happy for Harvey to get his goal though.

I'm putting the below down to all the beach talk btw. Who knows or cares which seaside town we faced?

"That’s what we’ve seen in recent weeks. The players haven’t downed tools, they’re still putting in the effort, but you aren’t going to beat Chelsea, Arsenal or Bournemouth when you aren’t at full throttle or full strength."

Yeah it was a bit like a pre-season game until the last 20 when Brighton played like it was a proper game and we didn't.

It felt like a kids game, where everyone is trying to show off, grab the glory and overdo it - Diaz and Mo were the worst culprits - and nobody could be too arsed defending.

On the question of how good, bad or indifferent the Premier League has been..... I'd very much agree with Dave's suggestion of it being a league of 17 teams. This season, 2 challengers have underperforming, but there has been a significant raising of quality amongst nearly every one else (bar, of course United and Spurs). This to a large extent has been down to what I would suggest is the best level of coaching the PL has seen. Nuno,Emery, Howe (wash my mouth out), Iraola, Silva, Glasner, Frank, the new guy at Wolves, Hurzeler (maybe) have all done good to very good jobs. Most teams come into a game with a plan and well prepared, hence us having so many tough, tight games - and we're the bets team in the league by a distance this season.
