Samed Yesil out for season

German under 19 international forward Samed Yesil has been ruled out for the rest of the season after suffering a second serious knee injury in less than 12 months.

The £1m signing from Bayer Leverkusen made two appearances for the first team last season before damaging his knee last February whilst on international duty. He spent eight months on the sidelines before returning to action earlier this season, but unfortunately he ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in the same knee in training recently and is now awaiting another operation.

Reds' under 21 boss Alex Inglethorpe told the Liverpool Echo; “Unfortunately Samed has suffered a reoccurrence of his knee injury. It’s a horrible situation for him. He had only just recovered from the previous injury.

“We will give him all the support he needs. He’s a great character and I am sure he will come back strongly from this.”

I don't think he'd had knee trouble before he joined us, so this is the second serious injury. A shame that it's the same knee as it will be weakened further still after surgery and means it's very unlikely that he will make it now.

Spend £1m on an unproven kid who's played twice; haggle over one or two million for an exciting international who then goes to a main rival for CL places. Such is the shambles that is our 'transfer policy'. Bad luck for the kid, wish him well in his rehab.
