Andy Robertson has a firm belief that Liverpool have more than enough depth to challenge in all the key competitions this season.
There has been a fair bit of discussion regarding Liverpool’s method to the summer transfer window.
By the own admission of new sporting director Richard Hughes. Liverpool are taking a “opportunistic approach” towards the transfer window, identifying specific targets and waiting for when they think is the right moment to strike.
They thought the moment arrived last week when Martin Zubimendi was believed to on the brink of a move but the Spanish international turned down the move and decided to stay at his club Real Sociedad.
Signing the highly rated 25 year-old would have been a shrewd bit of business and the filled the problematic position of Defensive midfielder.
With the rapid declining of form and then departure of Fabinho, a host of players have been linked over the past 12 months, but whether it be Moises Caicedo, Romeo Lavia or Brazilian international Andre Trinidade, the deal to bring them to the club has for one reason or another not eventuated, and now Zubimendi has been added to that list.
It has meant that Jurgen Klopp and now Arne Slot has to look for solutions within the squad with the latest of them being on Saturday when Ryan Gravenberch played in the role and more than held his own albeit sterner test await in the weeks and months ahead.
Liverpool are the only team in the Premier League to not make a signing in this transfer window and while there may be some impatience by some in the fanbase to make a proactive move, the words of Slot at the Ipswich pre-match press conference struck a tone of someone who has bought into this method and is more concerned with who he has got at his disposal rather than looking into a crystal ball and speculating who may be out there.
Within the squad there seems to be the quiet calmness and inner belief that still remains as displayed by the words of Robertson as the Echo reported.
“I think we have an unbelievably strong squad, You look at the bench today and even the lads who maybe didn't travel, we have a fantastic squad and the quality was shown a lot in the second half.
"Certain positions are spoken about and things like that but I thought people were really good and stepped up to the plate. We have a lot of quality in every position and if that is the squad that we go forward with then I believe that is good enough to compete in the competitions we want to compete in.
“Everyone wants new signings - fans want new signings, people want new faces around the building - but I think the squad we have got just now is incredibly strong and if we don't make any signings, we're in a good shape to crack on for the rest of the season."
The point of Robertson is valid as none of Curtis Jones, Harvey Elliott, Darwin Nunez or Waturu Endo saw any minutes on Saturday.
In the modern day of big money moves and teams splashing the clash sometimes completely frivolously, it seems inconceivable that a club certainly the size of Liverpool will go without making a move.
But all indications are that the key decision makers will not be panicked into a ‘Arthur Melo” desperation signing and who knows if this method proves successful, it may start a trend of clubs spending responsibly and living within their means.
