Report: Turkish goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakir set to join in the summer

Liverpool could be in for a double dose of defensive reinforcements according to reports.

Ugurcan Cakir is a 24 year-old goalkeeper who plays for Trabzonspor and has been highly rated in Turkish Football for quite a few seasons.

After being linked a few months ago to the Reds, a fresh report seems to suggest the move for the Turkish international has taken a few steps closer to fruition.

Cakir’s former coach Sadi Tekelioglu told Turkish publication Ajannspor (via the Echo) said that the interest of Liverpool is clear.

Liverpool will put in a bid for Uğurcan Çakır at the end of the season. 

“Trabzonspor will not say no to Liverpool’s offer. 

"Uğurcan had a suitor last season. I gave Uğurcan an idea to go to the teams in England.

“50 million Euros may be too much for us (Turkish clubs), but not for Europe.

In Alisson, Liverpool arguably have the best goalkeeper in World Football but the number two position is much more uncertain.

Adrian started in terrific fashion in filling in for the Brazilian at the start of the 2019/20 season when he was out with a calf injury.

But it was a different story just before the season was halted when he produced some extremely costly bowlers against Chelsea in the FA Cup and soon after the Round of 16 tie against Atletico Madrid.

The Reds also have young Irish gloveman who was given some first team experience in the League and FA Cups. 

In more speculation, Football 365 (via Fanatik) reports that Liverpool will look to spend some more money in Turkey, their time on Besiktas central defender Domagoj Vida.

The 31 year-old impressed at the 2018 World Cup for Croatia and it was believed that Jürgen Klopp was very keen on the veteran.

At the time his transfer fee was rumoured to be around the £30million mark but a few years down the track, that would have been reduced a fair bit.

It is believed Liverpool are looking for a replacement for Dejan Lovren who could be on his way in the summer after been linked with Arsenal and Tottenham along with Italian clubs and his good friend and countryman could be the player to fill his shoes.

Vida’s name was linked to controversy doing the international showcase when after his nation defeated Russia to move onto the semi final in a dramatic contest.

During the post-match celebrations, Vida and Ognjen Vukojevic, one of the team's assistant coaches, posted a short video dedicating the victory to Ukraine. 

Ukraine is locked in a dispute with Russia over the territory of Crimea, a conflict that has claimed thousands of lives since fighting broke out in 2014.

In the video Vida shouted “Glory to Ukraine!" which led to anti Croatia protests on the streets on Moscow. 

Vida who escaped official sanction for the incident felt very strongly about the cause of Ukraine after spending five and a half seasons playing for Dynamo Kyiv where he won two titles.
