Report: Leeds showing interest in taking Bobby Clark on loan

Leeds United have identified Bobby Clark as the player to fill a major hole in their midfield.

After losing Archie Gray to Tottenham and Glen Kamara to French club Rennes, the promotion hopefuls are looking at replacements and have identified Clark as a player of interest.

Football Insider reports that the Yorkshire club have joined Sheffield United and Norwich in inquiring about taking the academy graduate on loan.

While RB Salzburg now managed by Pep Lijnders were believed to have enquired about a permanent deal for the 19 year-old, but Liverpool have no intention of selling the player who has a deal until the end of the 2027/8 season.

Clark made a impression on coaches and fans alike last season in his 12 appearances, certainly not overawed by the big stage of a Carabao Cup final or in the Europa League were he earned a start and scored his first goal for the senior team against Sparta Prague.

Unfortunately the progress of Clark was halted with a back injury ruling him out of the last month of action. This pre-season has seen the club be naturally cautious with his recovery especially as he had an injury interrupted first half of last season, and therefore he missed out on the just completed U.S tour.

With a lot of exciting young talent making their way into the senior ranks, the next few weeks will be interesting to see what Arne Slot decides to do with the likes of Clark, Jayden Danns, Ben Doak and Luke Chambers to name a few.

We have seen the benefit of what a spell away from the club can do for a player with Harvey Elliott and Conor Bradley being two prime examples, while Chambers himself was outstanding for Wigan last season and became a fan favourite in the process.

But on the flip side, it can be nothing short of a nightmare with your progress can quickly stagnate. Two recent examples come to mind being Rhys Williams and Calvin Ramsey, where their loans at Aberdeen and Preston respectively having to be cut short and returning to the club.

While Ramsey was beset by bad fortune at Preston with illness coming virtually as soon as he recovered from long term injury, his time at Bolton was more problematic, seemingly not fitting into the plans of Wanderers manager Ian Evatt. The Scot will be hoping for better fortune at Wigan this season.

And that’s why for the other loanees this season, it is important that they go to a club that suits their footballing abilities.

A loan move to a decent championship team that's actually looking to get promoted instead of some prem team that's getting boshed every week would be much better for Clarke.

He's looked a very tidy player to date, but constant minutes would do him the world of good

The coaches have got a lot of serious thinking to do about our young midfielders.  You could put forward a case for sending half a dozen or so out on loan but we’ll need some real depth in the squad for Cup games and the usual injury crisis.

Much prefer him to go on loan rather than a sale, think I'd rather send him to Ljinders at Salzburg on loan than Leeds though.

Not sure what his best position is either.
