Reds set to Fire the Lazar?

Lazar Markovic is being linked with a return to Benfica this summer. Portuguese daily newspaper A Bola claims the Lisbon giants have informed the Reds they’d be interested in taking him back but understand a deal may be difficult.

Other well placed sources have suggested that there are concerns within the club that Markovic may not be equipped to thrive in English football and therefore might be one of those offloaded this summer. Should that prove to be the case, it’s unlikely the Reds will get anything like the £19.8m they paid for him a year ago. Benfica certainly won’t pay that amount, although a loan deal has been suggested in some reports.

The 21 year old showed flashes of what he could do in a spell around the turn of the year but for much of the season he found himself on the periphery and Markovic suffered more than most from Brendan Rodgers not having a settled formation. Having failed to force his way into the 4-2-3-1 set up early in the season he did enjoy some early success in an unfamiliar wing back role when Rodgers changed tactics, but that didn’t last and he lost his place to Jordon Ibe when the teenager returned from a loan spell in January.

As with several of last summer’s signings, Markovic is currently regarded as a flop but he’s hardly been helped by the constant chopping and changing and formation switches, Rodgers rarely played the 4-3-3 system that Markovic had presumably been signed to fit into and unless that changes this year then it’s difficult to see where the Serb will fit in once again, especially as he appears to be behind the likes of Ibe, Adam Lallana, Philippe Coutinho and - for the moment at least - Raheem Sterling.

Really stange loan. If we want him to grow some balls we'd be better off loaning him out to a better league, maybe even the championship or something.

I wonder if all these loan moves are Rogders trying to exert some kind of new authority over the transfer committee - both him and Balotelli being fucked off, but he continues to play Lovren, who are his signings and who aren't I wonder??

Load of bollocks.

I couldn't help but laugh yesterday when he bought Moreno on for Can - maybe he is operating on a committee signing quota system with regards to picking the side.

Wasn't the caveat of signing these 'top' prospects that it'd take a while for them to bed in? So what do we do when they don't bed in straight away? fuck them off on loan or out of the first team. No strategy or synergy between boardroom, management team and playing staff. Fucking bonkers.

I'd say Origi is delighted he signed.

We should loan him out every year of his contract, but to a different country each time, eventually he will be able to complete a clean sweep of appearances in the Worst XI across all of Europe's top leagues.

Can see it now, he'll do great and we'll pay 5 million to cancel the loan early and play him left wing back after Moreno ends up like Enrique; training alone, taking selfies and playing FIFA.

Markovic is exactly the sort of player who Rodgers professes to be some sort of genius at working with, a young and gifted player.

Not sure how he's 'working with' Markovic and developing him now, presumably by Skype.

The problem is that when these "prospects" turn out to be average they are a busted flush and have little or no resale value which was one of the main reasons you paid millions for them in the first place, It is fucking bonkers and what happens when people with no experience of football or sport outside of the US think they know best,

Loaning out players who are 20/21 isn't really a problem.

It is loaning out players of that age you have paid 20m for that is a problem.

20m players should be starting and making a difference for us

Maybe he's taught Markovic that his biggest mentor and role model is himself.

Ibe is now the LFC version of judging his daft transfer fee for any potential outgoings, like every other advert does regarding what a cup of overpriced fucking coffee costs. as a comparison tool for some other form of snake oil

Markovic is making more of an impact on loan in quite a short space of time than the aforementioned has at Bournemouth full stop, so maybe we get back more than we would think

I think we'll get £15-20M for Markovic if it's to a Prem team. If he goes somewhere else in Europe it will be another loan or a fee definitely less than £10M.

It's the cost of doing business in the Prem. It's not too bad if you are selling, but buying is all but impossible to find value.
