Klopp: It makes no sense to add more players to the squad

Jurgen Klopp has given his clearest indication yet that he is more than satisfied with the squad at his disposal and is unlikely to delve into the transfer market before the window closes.

In terms of incoming players the Reds have been very quiet, only adding young French central defender Ibrahima Konate from RB Leipzig.

However Liverpool have been buoyed by the return to full fitness of Virgil Van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Joel Matip and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain while Harvey Elliott has displayed his blossoming talent throughout the pre-season.

While the loss of Andy Robertson with ankle ligament damage was a undoubted setback, Kostas Tsimikas is another player who has impressed of late and after a frustrating first season at the club the former Olympiakos man will be looking to make a real impression.

Throughout the summer Liverpool have been frequently linked to Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez and Renato Sanches from Lille, while PSV striker Donyell Malen looked a possibility before signing with Borussia Dortmund.

Throughout his tenure, Klopp has been staunch in his support for players that he has at his disposal.

He is a manager that would rather see them succeed no matter how long it takes, than be someone who turns over his squad in a frequent fashion.

In the last few seasons that sense of loyalty has been rewarded with the club winning numerous honours on the domestic, European and global stage.

While some pundits openly question whether Liverpool still has what it takes to challenge, Klopp is in no doubt as he told  Danish network TV2 (via The Mail).

“Let's go through the squad. Do you want to buy a new full back? A new goalkeeper? We already have good players there.

“In midfield, we have players with a lot of experience, such as Thiago, Fabinho, (Jordan) Henderson, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita.

'In addition, we have exciting young boys in Harvey Elliott and Curtis Jones. In the attack, we have Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah, Diogo Jota, Xherdan Shaqiri, Takumi Minamino and Divock Origi.

While the other clubs that made the top four last season have forked out vast sums of money for reinforcements, Klopp is adamant that the need was not there for Liverpool at this point of time.

“If you want to buy such (top-class) players, you have to spend a lot of money. We do not have to do that, because the players are already here.

“You have to make changes from time to time, but then there must be room to do it. We do not want more players. If something happens somewhere, something can happen somewhere else, but it makes no sense to add more players.”

It's not worth the effort, is it?

You'll beat me with experience.

Fans mostly get shit wrong but it seems whenever there's a consensus we are short somewhere it nearly always reveals itself to be true. Some are concerned about the midfield because we have so many players there that are prone to injury its like we specifically seek it as an attribute but for me we desperately need a clinical finisher it doesn't have to be some fancy name but a player you think with the service we can provide would bury their chances but who the fuck is that. We generally need more goals from someone other than Salah.

You arent wrong, but there is nothing easier as a supporter than saying: "get rid of x, y and z and sign x y and z". I also did it at the beginning of the summer with Keita and with wanting to replace him. The reality is that the club and Klopp have invested in Keita and Ox and we wont give up on them because they pick up injuries. You cant just eliminate them as options and just add numbers on top of them because you think they will get injured.

The forward position is different, I agree we should get someone in.

He's also banking on Jones, and to a lesser degree Elliott. If he brings in another midfielder, it's saying they're not good enough.

Please. His English is fine. He doesn’t get to classify who a “real fan” is because we’re not all swinging from the chandeliers about resigning players we already have while our rivals all sign proper difference makers.

English is still his 2nd language and it's clear to most people he still doesnt translate exactly what he wants with some words all the time.

He isnt getting to 'classify who is a real fan,' if you think he is then I despair.

I think you do give up on Keita when only thing you can count on is that you can’t count on him. How many fucking years is it going to take for the penny to drop? That Madrid game should have been the last straw, yet today you hear the manager talk about how we would find another midfielder more creative than Naby. Fuckssake, he’s not even that good. And what’s the point of his creativity if he’s never on the pitch.

The bit in bold has a bit of attitude about it...

KLOPP DEFENDS LIVERPOOL TRANSFER POLICY

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has launched a staunch defence of the club’s transfer policy in the wake of their top-four rivals each spending upwards of £75million this summer.

We cannot spend money we don’t have. We cannot, the others can but we can’t. That’s my information,” he said ahead of the season-opener at Norwich.

“Chelsea are not hiding their ambitions, Man United isn’t, City isn’t. We don’t want to hide our ambitions because we want to fight for everything and in this moment it will be a massive fight.

“When the pandemic started and no-one knew how long it would be it was a difficult time for everyone, for football clubs as well. That is probably the reason why you ask me now if I’m surprised (about the spending).

“These clubs don’t depend on these kind of things I think. We all know the situation of Chelsea, the situation of City, and we all know the situation of PSG (Paris St Germain), for example. What United is doing I don’t know exactly how they do it. We have, obviously, our way to do it.

“I’m never surprised about the financial power of Chelsea, City or United. I am long enough in the country to know they always find a solution to do these kind of things.

“You cannot compare to the other clubs, they obviously don’t have any limits but we have limits and we were quite successful given the limits in the last two years.

“That is what we should try again and not use it as an excuse that if we do not win a game we say it was because we didn’t sign him or him. That will not be the case.”

Gini out - who in?

Thiago/Konate/Elliott

Thiago was Lovrens replacement, the idea being we can strengthen midfield and have fab as backup CB in the unlikely event that Virgil, gomez and Matip all get injured. That unlikely event ended up happening and almost fucked us, so we brought in Konate as Lovrens replacement instead.

He gets questions every season to the tune of; "hey look how much x team is spending, what do you think about that"? I'm sure it gets annoying pointing out the obvious that City and Chelsea are cunts and that United are a commercial behemoth.

In the actual press conference the only one he seemed confused by was Utd, he initially dismissed them when they were included in a question and replaced them with PSG.

You're wasting your time.

It's clear that FSG didn't offer Gini what he deserved and had the audacity to prevent Klopp from replacing him.

Konate is a just a £35mil decoy to fool the "real fans".

I specifically mentioned the bold bit.

The bit where he says "that's the information I have".

What sort of cunt says that if he's not pissed off about something?

Alignment to the board would sound more like: "we don't need to spend money because we have what we need."

Bit naughty of Jurgen that with the real fan line.

You'd hope it's a dig at the toxic breed of support that manifests on twitter where everything is won or lost based on 'banter' and who you or your rivals sign.

The kind of pleb that will post under a journalists story about racism or some other serious matter 'Announce X'.

He accepts the reality of our situation and wants supporters to get behind the team in the stadium, which they will of course do. He’s also sick to death of these bullshit questions that don’t fully concern him, as he’s a man who focuses on what he can actually change.

What exactly do people want him to do? Lose focus by publicly calling out the owners over not spending? Resign his position in protest over our spend compared to our rivals? Play Adrian as a false nine to highlight that we don’t have two £60m options for each position?
