Jurgen Klopp has had a cheeky little dig at the expense of old nemesis Man City as he officially embarks in a new phase of his highly successful footballing journey.
Yesterday saw the press conference where Klopp was officially unveiled as the Global Head of Soccer for Red Bull.
A number of topics were covered from the progress of his former club, to the three players who are still yet to sign contract extensions.
But it was one little remark which made the headlines revolving around the 115 charges that are pending against Man City for an alleged breach of financial rules.
With the hearings having concluded,it has been speculated that the final ruling will be handed down in the spring.
When the German was asked how he would feel if the Reds were awarded more Premier League titles, the answer was trademark Klopp as the Echo reported.
Did you say few months or three? Ah okay. We're getting closer (to the final ruling). Should? I don't say anything. Would? We had this discussion when we left, if it would happen I told all the people who want it, just book the flight and I buy the beer.
“Whatever we have to celebrate, good weather, we would have our own parade in my garden. God what a headline. We will see. I didn't follow it all. I'm surprised you're telling me it's two months away. Let's see."
Klopp also talked about calling time on his Liverpool tenure and said that he has no regrets and it was time to look at another role in the game which interested him.
"I no longer have to improve the game in individual places, but I want to make football better all over the world. No longer prepare a new game every week, but work on the bigger picture.
:
It's pretty much what I wanted to do. I finished seven months ago at Liverpool. I did that consciously.
"A few months after that the opportunity came up. I don't want to be a passenger or a prominent person in the room. I really want to put some value on it.
"I did not want to do that [be a manager] anymore. I wanted to get a new start and this is an opportunity. To add value. How it will look we will see. There is not one plan that works for all teams. We want to be the best we can be. In each department, in each club."
But despite having no regrets on leaving the club, Klopp revealed he still keeps in contact with some players along with the man who succeeded him as manager
"I am in contact with some people, Arne, texting, the players, texting,""[But] there is not a 0.01 percentage that thinks I should still be there. Not at all.
"I am more than happy not to be there because they are doing so well. It’s great. I wish them all the best and I watch as many games as I can.
"It’s great football, even if you don’t support Liverpool you better watch them. It’s top football, maybe the most balanced in the world right now. I am really really happy about that.”
And finally his thoughts on a player he signed and helped mould into one of the most dynamic attacking players in the modern game.
“I hope Mo stays. He is the biggest striker Liverpool had in the modern times - obviously there were other good strikers, really good strikers!
“But a fantastic player, fantastic human being, outstanding athlete, best ambassador your country could have. Fantastic, really in pretty much all departments. So I hope he will stay at Liverpool.”
