Alan's only memorable contribution as a Liverpool player came when he stuck out a long leg to divert a right-wing cross into the Gladwys Street net for the only goal of the Goodison derby in 1973.
Bought from Halifax in the summer of 1973, he was never going to seriously threaten the Keegan/Toshack partnership which had been sosuccessful over the previous two seasons.
That goal at Everton came in only his 2nd League match for Liverpool but he never added to it in a further 14 League appearances over the next year and a half. After spending more time in the reserves with very little chance of another breakthrough, Alan was transferred to Leicester City in September 1977.
