PODCAST: Liverpool 2 Wolves 0 - Klopp's Last Stand

Anfield paid tribute to Jurgen Klopp on a highly-emotional afternoon as the curtain came down on this incredible era with a 2-0 win over Wolves.

TLW Editor Dave Usher and Chris Smith reflect on a farewell that brought smiles through the tears, as the boss rode off into the sunset with one more rallying call and a fist pump into the future.

Totally agree with Dave at the beginning and the cock up with YNWA and the lap of honour. Jurgen missed out on a final rendition of YNWA with the Kop as he only got there at the end. On the lap of honour, he wanted to start it off straight away after YNWA had finished but someone in a suit told him to go in. With no announcement made Anfield emptied assuming that was it then Jurgen came back out with the players and looked stunned at how empty it was and went “Wow” to Virg. Gutted he didn’t get to have a final walk around to a packed Anfield. Someone ballsed that up big time. And for some reason it’s bothered me more than it should.

Yes I mentioned the cock up last night I reckon jurgen should have stayed on all the time and walked round the ground while the players went off and brought the families on

Big mistake whoever let him go off

The Waterford lads got quite the kick in the balls just before kickoff:

if they're anything like most people I know from Waterford, they're all big Kilkenny fans anyway.

Until I listened to the pod I had no idea that the players et al came back onto the pitch. We left as the players trooped off back to the tunnel, there was no reason at all to think they would be back out again. Shame.

Why were there little miniature replica trophies on a table?? Why not just stick the real ones there??

I'm surprised how much that comment hurt.

The little trophies were presented to Klopp.

Well done guys, saw me through an airport delay and most of the flight back. Thanks for all the entertainment over another season.

Not withstanding the balls up at the end. Someone on twitter said that the celebrations where as close as we where going to get to a celebration equivalent to had we celebrated with the fans the league in 2020.

I would have been all up for Jurgen carrying a replica of the PL to the fans btw....

For a split second I thought Revolut hadn’t beaten Waterford in the SHC. I thought the commercialisation of Gaelic games had really gone too far.

Great listen.  Don't agree Klopp will be at the games loads of times, I think he might give Slot some space for the first few months at least.  I think he'll go to his first match as a fan some time around December maybe?  What do I know though, I could be completely wrong!

No I agree with that, but then he'll be there fairly regularly after. Me and John were talking about that on Sunday and we said we think early December will be his first game back. He'll be travelling around enjoying himself for a while.

Some slightly disturbing hero-worship in this one, mainly from Chris.

Haha. There was certainly plenty of hero worship. Genuinely interested in why it was disturbing to you, mate?

I didn't mind the hero worship, but saying that the sending off was harsh was madness!

Thanks for the pods over the season, Dave, Chris, Paul, Stu, Browny, JG, John, Al Capone and anybody else I have missed. I enjoy them very much.

Yeah if I'd seen the replay before we went on I'd have definitely pushed back on Chris for that! There's no way you can't send him off there. There was a time when that was a yellow, and I'm happy to go back to that time, but right now that's a 100% red card.

You missed your compatriot off that list by the way. Is that a north/south rivalry thing?

I mean if you can't hero worship Jurgen Klopp then who can you hero worship? Especially on the day he just left!

From my seat it looked like Macca had jumped in two footed and the only thing separating the two tackles was he got there slightly earlier. A fraction of a second difference and it would have been Macca walking. I haven't really seen anything since to convince me otherwise.
