PODCAST: Liverpool 2 Norwich City 1 - FA Cup Match Reaction

The Reds keep on rolling. No cup final hangover here as Kloppo made 10 changes and the squad did its job with a routine win over the Canaries. Taki Minamino continued his cup heroics with two more goals while Curtis Jones dazzled in the first half before picking up a knock that ruled him out of the second.

Chris Smith is joined by Ian Brown and TLW Editor Dave Usher to go through the talking points of this one, while there's more reflection on Sunday's Wembley win and specifically some of the post match stuff we didn't cover on the last pod. There's also a look ahead to the weekend's clash with West Ham and one of the lads reveals he's been having recurring dreams about a certain former Uruguayan striker.

Couple of points we covered here, that'd be great to get some wider thoughts on...

2 years since Curtis announced himself with that FA Cup goal against Everton: Is he ahead of where we could have reasonably expected him to be from that point?

Is Hendo's role in the squad evolving a little bit? Is it looking like he's about to take on more of a Milner role?

Thoughts?

Thought Taki was excellent last night. What impressed me was he was hardly knocked off the ball when in possession all game. I think that's the first time he's really looked like the player we bought from Salzburg.

Thought Curtis was very good last night as well. Shame he seemed to pick up. I expected him to have kicked on a lot more to be honest. Compare him to Harvey and I have to say Harvey would be the go to player every time if it came to a choice between the 2. Still time for him though.

Hendo was the only player who started the League Cup Final to start against Norwich so not sure about him taking on a Milner type role. I think it's just down to Jurgen knowing he can now manage all the players playing time because our squad is so good.

I assume when Chris referred to a Milner type role he meant Milner over recent years as opposed to the role he has now.

Correct. More the role that James had in Klopp's earlier years. The trusted, reliable leader relied upon to keep things together, but not always necessarily first choice.

Great podcast. One of the best yet.

I agree about Hendo. I think the next two seasons will see his appearances gradually reduce and he'll get subbed more regularly before he finally becomes a valued but bit-part player. Now is the time for him to retire from International football if he wants to eke more out of his club career.

Curtis is already a very good player and has potential to become a great player if he can add consistency to his game. To date I think he has blown hot and cold but that's not unexpected for a young player. I also get the impression that most of his good games are at Anfield.  He's been a bit unfortunate as external issues seem to have led to disjointed progress so I don't think he has come on quite as much as I had hoped when he first broke through.

The nearest comparison is probably Foden who is considerably ahead of him although only slightly older.  But that's no disgrace because Foden (unfortunately) looks the real deal.

Surely the World Cup is it for him? It has done Milner a world of good to be able to put his feet up on international breaks. Hopefully Jordan can do something similar for the next couple of years while this squad is so good.

That sounds about right. Let's hope Hendo agrees.

I'd tell Southgate to shove it up his dickhole immediately, given the disrespect he's shown Hendo down the years.

It might have been you, dreaming about heckling him.

(FYI you heckle him even in a dream you better wake up and apologise)

I don’t have any complaints about where Curtis is given the stop/start nature of his career so far. I am a huge fan of his and think he has absolutely world-class potential. It would not surprise me in the slightest if he is seen as one of the best players in Europe in five years time.

Witness that ball to Jota, for example. He had two options: one out to the right to Taki, I think, in the direction he was facing, and the other to Jota on his left. He hit the ball to Jota that was almost perpendicular to where he was over about 25 yards to the player’s feet. It wasn’t quite “no look”, but it practically was.

He is absolutely sensational. In my opinion he is simply going through a period of aligning his own game to what Klopp wants from him. Once he is fully comfortable in that he will be absolutely ridiculous.

Comparisons with Harvey are slightly unfair because it’s not actually his incredible technique that sets Harvey apart; it’s more his intelligence and understanding at such a young age. Curtis’ technique is comparably amazing; it’s just that his maturity is more modest.

As for Hendo, I think he’s still first choice but being managed. Inevitably he’ll become more Milner-like in terms of selection, but I expect him to have a key role for at least another season or two (even when Bellingham arrives in the summer).

Agree with most of that. Curtis has better technique than Harvey in my opinion.

Agree with everything Paul said there. That pretty much sums up my thoughts exactly.

I've re-uploaded the pod by the way having make some adjustments to the sound levels. Can you have a quick listen again and let me know if it sounds better? No need to listen to the whole thing, just have a quick check and see if you can tell the difference.

It might not have updated on apple, spotify etc just yet so wait until a bit later. The actual podbean feed definitely sounds louder to me.

You can thank Brownie for that by the way, he's worked overtime on figuring that out for us as I was completely flummoxed by it.

I said similar on a recent pod I think, but a better way of putting it is that it's a different technique. I'd say Curtis has more flair but Harvey is incredibly sound technically, he's just somewhat less flashy. It's the maturity and decision making of Harvey that is just completely next level though.

One thing Harvey does so well which I wanted to mention but didn't get round to it is that overlapping run and cross. He does it all the time. Whoever has the ball waits for him to overlap, lays it into his path and he stands up a cross with his weak foot, he's so good at it.

Jota should have scored with a header from that.

Volume is a lot better now.

Still not perfect listening back (I can hear mine clipping but that's my fault and I'm an anal twat). I think going forward the quality will definitely be better overall and we can keep tweaking to get it to where want it to be.

Volume much better and Brownie sounds the clearest of all. Whatever equipment he’s using is the way to go.  Dave and Chris still sound a bit tinny. Like there in a phone. Brownie sounds like he’s in the room with you, which is weird when you’re having a shite.
