PODCAST: League Cup Final - Match Reaction

It's Liverpool in a final so it's never straightforward, but this one was even more dramatic than usual. Somehow it was 0-0 after a pulsing 120 minutes of football that saw countless chances for both sides and four goals ruled out by VAR. Even the dreaded penalties struggled to break the deadlock until Chelsea 'keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga eventually missed with the 22nd kick of the shoot out to finally separate the two heavyweights.

TLW Editor Dave Usher is joined by John Gallagher and Julian Richards to relive all the drama as Klopp's men claimed what will hopefully be the first leg of an historic quadruple.

Good podcast in the midst of a cup final. I thought our card was marked after Matip's goal was chalked off.

I strangely felt confident when Kelleher stepped up to take his pen with him being a former striker. That Kepa I thought would be hit and hope. He was a cunt with his mind games attempt but on the whole, I dont think keepers should be taking pens in shootouts.

There’s a bit in the dressing room after where Thiago is talking to Harvey and just like @dave u said about him being under Salah‘s wing, this kid is being advised and mentored by some of the worlds very best players.

we’ll never know what that conversation is, but can’t help but think it’s a proper teaching/learning moment from a pro who was so gutted to miss out on the final he was in tears, to a young lad that wasn’t supposed to play but scored a penalty in the shootout.

those little bits are what make these “inside …” videos so good to watch. Especially the ones from finals.

Interesting podcast as usual with some good takes.  Wish it was a bit louder though.  Half of my daily walk is along main roads and it was really hard to hear many of the points made with the traffic.

I disagree with Dave that Kepa isn't seen as a penalty specialist.  He has been brought on before to save penalties.  Also, in the last Final when he refused to come off it was because they thought he was injured, not to be replaced for penalties.  He has said since that he was faking injury to kill time and that's why he was arguing that he didn't need to come off.

That changing keeper thing is a nonsense.  It worked once for Holland because everyone was shocked and it got in the Chile players heads.  But I was fully expecting Kepa to come like he did before for them.  As Dave said, it would have given me a boost to see the guy who'd been their man of the match go off.

However, he is a bellend.  I noticed right at the start of the penalty shootout that when Milner was waiting outside the area for Kepa to get in his goal, Kepa was asking the referee to take the ball off Milner and give it to him so he could get a feel of it (He was doing hand movements as he was saying it).  The ref was having none of it and said no.  Kelleher must have seen that because after each time a Chelsea player scored their pen, Kelleher would get the ball out of the net and give it to Liverpool player up next so Kepa couldn't act the arse.

Also quite funny that the very first time in the entire match the Chelsea goalkeeper for the penalties kicked the ball was leather it into space and cost his team a Cup Final.

Finally, on big Virgs pens.  I noticed it wasn't mentioned that Kepa stood the side Virg went too. He was 2/3rds over to his right challenging Virg to go there.  So Virg just walloped it right there straight through the cunt.  Beautiful.

The volume issue is the bane of my life, I just can't fix it. It sounds perfect when I finish editing but after the file is converted to MP3 the volume just goes all over the place, but mostly just down.

I think you just need to invest in some new speakers.
