PODCAST: Brentford 3 Liverpool 3 - Match Reaction

The Reds are top of the table despite a somewhat disappointing result at Brentford. It was a wild game in which the hosts were full value for a point, but Jurgen Klopp's men only have themselves to blame for not going home with the win under their belts.

TLW Editor Dave Usher is joined by Paul Natton and Dan Thomas to sift through the wreckage of a defensive horror show, but there is some disagreement as to whether the blame for these two lost points should lie with the defence or the attack.

The continued worrying form of Sadio is also a discussion point while the lads preview the midweek game at Porto and talk team selection for that one.

Definitely the defence to blame. Forwards miss good chances every game, opposition keepers are entitled to make wonder saves etc But if we score three times, taking the lead twice, we should be winning comfortably unless  the opposition are doing something remarkable or scoring wonder goals.  Maybe conceding once or twice against predictable tactics might just be unfortunate but not three times. No need to point the finger at individuals in our defence as they were all bad.

Let's hope they can shake it off and resume normal service soon.

Have to agree with Dan, was it? I thought our defending wasnt good and Fabinho seemed more intent on not doing a Phil Babb with the post on Brentford's first goal!

We looked shaky at the back against Palace and chelsea at home. That Havertz goal wasnt a fluke. I thought Matip and van Dijk had a Watfordesque performance and never looked settled in the game.

I agree with Paul to a degree, we did miss some chances but I think the misses were symptomatic of the game.

I don't think there is more blame to be proportioned to one end of the pitch over the other. If blame is to be dished out its probably the management team that should be holding their hands up and even at that I'm sure it's fair. Brentford decided to lay down a challenge a go toe to toe with us, we made a decision to accept the challenge which is fair enough given we have much better players. On the day their players played above their level and we played below ours, it happens, rather this week than next.
