Trent Alexander-Arnold is chasing Lionel Messi’s record and is on the right track for a Premier League record

Liverpool full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold continues to break records with his performances in club football.

With his performance against Leicester in the 2-0 win in midweek, the right-back has become the fourth-fastest player to achieve 150 league games in the Premier League at the age of 23 years and 126 days. Only Robbie Fowler, Michael Owen, and Emlyn Hughes were younger than Alexander-Arnold when they attained the milestone.

But that is not the end of his impressive stats.

Alexander-Arnold has accumulated 16 assists for the 2021/22 season, tying his single-season high, yet there are still three months before the end of the campaign. Furthermore, since the start of the 2018-19 season, only Lionel Messi and Thomas Müller have had more assists than him, which is remarkable given that they play further upfront and are very experienced players going by their age.

He has 43 assists in the Premier League era, which places him 62nd all-time. Alexander-Arnold might get into the top 50 if he manages just four more before the season end. He's been arguably the league's best goal creator for the best of the last three seasons, and he's leading the pack so far this season.

With Alexander-Arnold still just 23, producing an assist every 285 minutes (all competitions), with a huge portion of his career yet to play out, one must wonder what type of stats he'll end up with if he does continue at this rate. Keep up with VWin88 for all matches in the Premier League to see what this prodigy is capable of. VWin is the leading Asian bookmaker, bringing you events from different leagues around the world. In the last two full seasons as a starter for Liverpool, he has assisted in double figures (this season notwithstanding).

So, if we extrapolate this over the coming seven years of his career, up to 30 years of age, when most full-backs start to show signs of physical deterioration as the rigours of the position take their toll, the figures are staggering. Unless he suffers an injury or loses his form, Alexander-Arnold might be capable of providing 70 more assists by the time he is 30.

That would be at least ten every season for the next seven years. If he can reach 12 to 15 people every campaign, the overall outcome will be much better. Steven Gerrard is the club's all-time assist leader, with 92 assists throughout his tenure at Liverpool during the Premier League era. Alexander-Arnold will exceed that record with only 49 more if he continues doing what he’s doing.

Ryan Giggs now holds the record for most Premier League assists with 162. If Alexander-Arnold plays until the same age as Giggs, 40, and continues to provide assists at this same rate, Giggs' record might also be broken. Looking ahead 17 years, Alexander-Arnold could end up with a total of 170 assists in the Premier League, in addition to the 43 he currently has.

While that statistic may appear unreasonable considering the different factors that every player faces during their careers, Alexander-Arnold's strength is that he isn't as reliant on his speed as a typical full-back. He has been hailed as the modern full-back by many football analysts, and we could see a lot more of him in the coming years. He is yet to get to his peak, so there is a lot in store if he keeps his head down.
