Transfer targets which could help Klopp’s Liverpool build on evident progress

Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool are in a stronger position than they have been in recent times, certainly before the German manager came along.

The former Dortmund boss has provided the Reds with not only his likeable personality, but an attacking, positive style of play which gets results, and a belief in his long-term project at the club.

The understanding in his methods and what they entail has, bluntly put, united the club from day dot. From the boardroom, to the players, to the fans - everyone is singing off the same hymn sheet at Anfield. This season’s achievements aside, the future is still very much bright at the club as they’ve further cemented themselves amongst the best in Europe and have the core of a squad that can challenge on all fronts for years to come. But, and it’s a big but, Liverpool must carry on their progress and not stagnate as others around them continue to play catch up.

Keeping hold of Mohamed Salah and building a team around the Egyptian King is absolutely crucial. Incidentally, Salah’s Egypt are 4/1 (888sport) to win the African Nations Cup 2019, and should the Egyptian star continue to impress in the competition, then the likes of Real Madrid or Barcelona could come calling.

Sadio Mane - another key man who will be gracing the African Nations Cup in the summer, with his Senegal team also priced at 4/1 to win the tournament which represents excellent value if you fancy testing your betting skills - is another star man the Reds need to keep at Anfield. He’s arguably been Liverpool’s most important attacking player this campaign and, coupled with Salah’s input, has been a hugely important weapon for Klopp since he arrived at the club.

Below are a few transfer targets who could supplement Liverpool’s squad nicely and enable the club to carry on their progress under Jurgen Klopp.

Ismaila Sarr - Rennes

Rennes winger Ismaila Sarr, who has been in excellent form in Ligue 1 this season with 12 assists and 10 goals - a simply fantastic return for a wide player, is being strongly linked with a move to Anfield. The 21-year-old has stated his admiration for Liverpool in the past and hailed fellow countryman Sadio Mane as his idol. The exciting talent certainly fits the bill and would provide stern competition for Liverpool’s other attacking options.

Callum Wilson - Bournemouth

A player that perhaps doesn’t get the plaudits he deserves, Wilson could be the perfect option for Klopp as Liverpool undoubtedly look to replace Daniel Sturridge and possibly Divock Origi, as well as seeking to find more cover for Roberto Firmino. The Cherries star, who appears to have cemented himself as a regular in Gareth Southgate’s England squad, will be highly sought after in the summer, with Liverpool perhaps in the hunt.

Julian Brandt - Leverkusen

Leverkusen’s star man has been attracting the interest of a number of clubs in the last year or so, but Liverpool appear to be frontrunners. According to Sport Bild, Klopp is ready to activate his release clause which is a minuscule £21.5million by today’s crazy standards. For that price, Liverpool won’t be the only side interested, though.

Marco Asensio - Real Madrid

Asensio, who was expected to step up and be one of the players to fill the void following Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure, hasn’t really done it for Real Madrid this season. A reported target for the Reds last summer, the talented Spaniard is in desperate need of regular first team football and could certainly be tempted by a move to another one of Europe’s top clubs.
