Three strikers Klopp may look to add this summer

Liverpool’s recent goalless draw with Southampton means that the Reds have scored just three goals in their last 360 minutes of football in the Premier League, something that is sure to worry Reds’ boss Jurgen Klopp. Arsenal’s 2-0 victory over Manchester United at the Emirates Stadium means Champions League qualification still remains in their hands, though, with two games to go.

If Liverpool are to challenge for trophies next season, they are going to need to strengthen in the final third of the pitch this summer. Unlike many of their top rivals, they don’t have a recognised centre forward who can guarantee them 20 goals a season.

Here is a look at three strikers that Klopp may look to add this summer.

Alexandre Lacazette

With 31 goals to his name in all competitions, Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette has been one of the hottest strikers in Europe this season. The Frenchman has helped his side to the semi-finals of the Europa League, which they are9/2 with Sports Bet to triumph in, while Lyon have had a solid campaign in Ligue 1, where they sit fourth.

At the age of 25, Lacazette may be looking for a big move this summer and Liverpool should do all they can to make sure they are at the top of his list. The France international is now a regular for his country and looks to be the kind of player who would relish the physical challenge he would get in the Premier League.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

If Klopp is given a transfer chest this summer, he may look to spend a large chunk of that cash on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, a player he knows very well from his time with Dortmund. The Gabon forward is one of the hottest properties in the game today and would probably cost in excess of £60 million.

Signing Aubameyang would guarantee Liverpool goals as the Dortmund man has found the back of the net on 75 occasions over the last two seasons, including in his side’s 2-1 victory over Hoffenheim recently. Interest is sure to be high in the 27-year-old once the transfer window opens again; however, Klopp has an advantage in that he has worked with the player before and that could be the determining factor in where he chooses for his next destination.

Jermain Defoe

Signing a 34-year-old striker is not something you do for a long-term project; however, given that Sunderland striker Jermain Defoe is likely to be available this summer for a low fee following his side’s relegation to the Championship, he might just be seen as short-term fix by Klopp.
