Rare off day for Salah takes top four race to final week

Jurgen Klopp hasn’t minced any words while expressing his disapproval of Mohamed Salah’s dive in the recent match against Chelsea which Reds lost 0-1. The dive resulted in the footballer of the year getting booked by the referee and it was a day to forget for the Egyptian.
 
Chelsea’s win has given them a ray of hope and possibility of getting into the top four and shackling their former frontman Salah was the key to victory. Liverpool can still secure a top four spot with victory over Brighton on the final day, but they are making heavy going of it and have taken just six points from the last 15 available.

Coming back to Salah, he was cautioned earlier in the match when he fell under Gary Cahill’s first-half challenge. It’s worth noting that this was the third successive scoreless game for the man dubbed 'the Egyptian King'.

Talking to the press about the incident, Jurgen Klopp said, “Yes I think it was a dive, was it? Or he waited for the contact, I am not sure, so that is not what I want to see, that is not what he wants to do. But obviously it happened. With all the other situations, he couldn’t get any foul any more. That is not right as well. It was always like this and you have to deal with that.” 
 

 
The star forward has scored a total of 41 goals this season and was playing against his former Roma teammate Antonio Rudiger. Klopp is confident that the striker would soon rediscover his winning touch, well in time for the May 26 encounter against Real Madrid, in the European Cup final.
 

Klopp expressed his disappointment stating that Salah has played twice against his former teammates, in a row, and the game against Chelsea turned out the same way as against Roma. He mentioned that prior to the game the opponent players are very friendly, but then get overly aggressive during the game. 
 
He had some words of advice for Salah that he needs to be play much better than he’s doing right now and he has the ability also to do so. Klopp expressed no doubt that Salah will score soon again. Coming from Klopp it means a lot as many think that he’s the man who made Reds believe in themselves again. 
 
What the victory means for Chelsea? 
 
Chelsea’s victory over Liverpool has taken Antonio Conte’s side within 3 points reach of the Reds, before they host Huddersfield in a mid-week game on May 10. If Chelsea win that match, and even if Tottenham get the better of Newcastle on May 9, the race for the top 4 positions will go down to the wire when Liverpool host Brighton and Tottehham play Leicester over the weekend. 
 
Antonio Conte spoke to the press and said, “We must be pleased with our will to fight and desire to keep hope alive to take a place in the Champions League. I don’t know if this will be enough at the end of the season to get a place in the Champions League, but we have to try.”
