Liverpool are one of England's most prestigious clubs but have struggled to compete with the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea and Manchester City in recent years. While they have always performed well in Europe, the Reds haven't won the league title since 1990 and are desperate to win a 19th top-flight success.
Since Jurgen Klopp took over, Liverpool have improved considerably and could challenge for the title next season if they can maintain their current level of performance throughout the remainder of the campaign. While they lost in their most recent fixture to Crystal Palace, they've shown enough quality in recent weeks to suggest that they could win the Premier League in the future. Here's why the Reds should be labelled as genuine contenders for the crown.

Klopp is a brilliant manager
Simply put, Klopp is an excellent boss. While he may not be able to lead Liverpool to glory this season, he's certainly capable of building a formidable side in the future. The German needs the opportunity to bring in his own transfer targets and the Reds will be a huge force next season.
For the remainder of the current campaign, Klopp should focus on learning about his side's strengths and weaknesses while targeting a top-four finish in order to secure Champions League football at Anfield. They have a talented crop of young players
Liverpool have a number of excellent, young stars who could be the basis for a dynasty era of success in the future. The likes of Jordan Rossiter, Joe Gomez and Jordon Ibe are all still in their teenage years but have shown plenty of talent in recent months.
Klopp will certainly be encouraged by their future prospects and the Liverpool manager will believe that, with those players, he can lead the Reds to the title in the coming years. This season, both Gomez, who is injured, and Ibe have played key roles but will grow into themselves as they mature.
They are still hurting from 2014
One of Klopp's greatest traits as a manager is his ability to help his side channel their energy and frustrations. While Rodgers failed to inspire his troops after Steven Gerrard's fatal slip cost Liverpool the title, Klopp will use that moment to his and Liverpool's advantage.
He will use that as the fuel for a genuine title challenge and will push his players to achieve their ultimate goal. With a few incomings and a couple of outgoings, Klopp will have a strong squad and, with the right motivation, the Reds will stand an excellent chance of claiming their first Premier League title next season.
