On a memorable Easter Monday Liverpool secured a third league title with a win over the previous seasons champions. With four games remaining the Reds were five points clear at the top of the league and knew that a win coupled with a Spurs defeat would guarantee the title.
However Burnley weren’t going to relinquish their title easily, as they were still mathematically in the hunt themselves. Over 50,000 fans packed into Anfield and saw us win 2-1 thanks to goals from Dick Forshaw and Harry Chambers.
There was then an anxious wait to hear the Spurs score. After what seemed like an eternity it was announced that they had lost 2-1 at Oldham and we were the new champions.
It was the first time in our history we had clinched the title at Anfield and there were huge celebrations. There were further joyous scenes at the end of the season when the players and officials paraded the trophy in a horse drawn carriage.
