  1. People overlook the fact that Klopp had already successfully replaced Dortmund’s best striker twice prior to Lewandowski’s departure. When he arrived at the club, Alexander Frei was their top scorer. A year later, Frei was replaced by Lucas Barrios (bought from Colo Colo for £3.7m), who went on fire them to the league title in 2010/11. The following season Barrios suffered a horrible loss of form – he didn’t score a league goal until the start of February and managed only three more before the end of the campaign – but Dortmund still managed to do the double because Lewandowski stepped into the breach. As others have already pointed out, Klopp also replaced Sahin with Gundogan (at a decent profit, even though they only got £8m for Sahin) and Kagawa with Reus. And if Zorc is to be given the credit for buying Lewandowski, Barrios, Reus, Gundogan et al, then surely he also has to be held responsible for the disappointing buys the club made last summer.
  2. If it's proper old-school Jamaican dub you're after, all of these albums are pretty glorious: Observer All Stars & King Tubby's [also called Niney The Observer At King Tubby's on some issues] - Dubbing With The Observer (bought this at Piccadilly Records when I was 18, played it relentlessly ever since) Niney The Observer - Sledgehammer Dub In The Streets of Jamaica King Tubby Meets The Aggrovators At Dub Station King Tubby Meets The Upsetter - At The Grass Roots Of Dub Lee Perry/The Upsetters - Upsetters 14 Dub Blackboard Jungle [aka Blackboard Jungle Dub] Also, every Lee Perry/The Upsetters album from Africa's Blood (1972) through to Super Ape (1976) has some wonderful stuff on it.
  3. That may have been more down to Rodgers making the bewildering mistake of playing Gerrard in a midfield two again, rather than to the personnel at his disposal. Hopefully he won't make that error again - the start of last season showed it doesn't work and England's performances at the World Cup only served to reinforce the point. It's a big worry if he intends to persist with 4-2-3-1 though.
  4. I'm trying to imagine what Southall looks like now, given that during his playing days he looked like a middle-aged bin man on the back end of a five-day bender. It's a frightening thought.
  5. Not 100% sure what the question means, but under Mourinho Di Maria definitely tended to play on the left of a three behind a striker, and he fell over a lot for no discernible reason, as Mourinho's attacking players tend to. Under Ancelotti he's been transformed into a very effective, hard-running midfielder with flair. From what I saw last season, he either played as one of the midfield runners in front of Alonso - very similar to the way Henderson/Allen/Coutinho et al played in front of Gerrard for us - or as the central one of the three in a 4-2-3-1. There are posters on here who watch a lot more of Madrid than I do, and I'm sure they can give you a much more nuanced view of Di Maria. He was often very good in Spain though, however much we might want to pretend otherwise.
  6. Di Maria played in central midfield for Madrid for most of last season, and did so brilliantly much of the time, unfortunately.
  7. Nine of the Dortmund starting eleven that beat Bayern tonight also started against us at the weekend. Bayern had some big names missing of course, but it still bodes well for us. Some pretty cuntish tackles from Bayern when things weren't going their way as well.
  8. Ronaldo's goal celebration is truly one of the most repugnant sights in football. Good to see the Sevilla fans giving him the respect he deserves.
  9. It's bizarre how little speculation there's been linking him and Ricardo Rodriguez with moves, given the seasons they've both just had.
  10. Carragher-esque tackle from our number 23, after a Lucas-esque mistake from Lucas near the edge of our box.
  11. How on earth are these absurd fictions still being perpetuated, even in articles ostensibly critical of Hodgson? He constantly revealed himself to be a prickly, self-regarding, cantankerous wanker while he was with us. And this idea that he's articulate and donnish is equally ludicrous. He's always come across as a semi-literate embarrassment in his press conferences. He hardly speaks English any better than Capello did.
  12. He's definitely slyly cracking one off over that pic at the 51sec mark. Is the photo of his daughter?
  13. Pray this is true, but they've already lost Lewandowski this summer. Flogging Reus would be akin to us selling Sturridge after seeing Suarez leave. It's intriguing though, because prior to the World Cup the consensus was that Reus would join Barcelona next summer, when a 30-odd million euro release clause would kick in. But it's impossible to see Messi, Neymar, Suarez and Reus in the same team. He also seemed to rule out ever joining Bayern earlier in the season.
  14. Love the way the BBC have picked a photo of Ferdinand looking mentally disabled for the ad for that 'Rio In Rio' abomination.
  15. You clearly never saw Djibril Cisse play, FC. Hundreds and hundreds of times, and he never really learned.
