  1. The cracks are beginning to show in Russia's 'unity of purpose' for the SMO: Russian moms and babushkas demanding answers as to why their boys are dying for nothing. Couple that with growing demonstrations by the womenfolk of the mobilised as to why their men are being used as mere cannon fodder in a foreign war. When Putin loses the babas, he loses the war.
  2. It was Leeds International Film Festival last month. Only got to see one film: Hundreds of Beavers! No ladyparts in it, just a bonkers film with some proper belly-laugh moments. Makes a refreshing change from the earnestness that's seemingly everywhere at the moment: 8.62/10 It's out on general release next spring I think. Go watch t!
  3. Trench warfare on the Eastern front: fucking brave bastards.
  4. Great choice of metal there Cap'n. If they offer you extra laps in the car once you've done a few, take it on. They let you open it up a bit more once they know you can handle it. Enjoy!
  5. It's a good point: Also, when did the US Lend-Lease deal kick in for the Soviets? There's an argument that they'd have struggled without it.
  6. Barbie Starts off decent enough as a surreal metaphor with some proper laughs thrown in. Loses its way when it tries to condense 100+ years of gender politics into a bright pink bundle while blurting out 'patriarchy' over and over again. Maybe I'm too thick/ unreconstructed to 'get it'. Or maybe I've no time for a light film trying to wrestle with hugely complex issues and bungling it, dunno... Ryan Gosling however, is a comedy genius though. Who knew? 6/10
  7. Never 'got' remapping; buying a car that has ben designed to tolerances by the best engineers in the word, then letting some some grease monkey fuck it all up? Work on the power-to-weight ratio instead by binning all the seats you won't be sitting in.
  8. Or get the 514 straight if you're after a zip fly and decent bit of stretch. Levi's outlet doing two pairs for £119 atm.
  9. Fuck. Another absolute legend away. Hope he's skanking with Mandela up there.
  10. Whilst terrible, parts of this war are fascinating: Russia's increasing use of private mercenaries (Wagner, mostly) is quite telling: Putin is above all a pragmatist and realises his money is better spent on a private war corp to deliver results than his own endemically corrupt and venal Russian Army, Witness the alleged 'performance bonus' Wagner get for capturing Bakhmut; hence their insistence on throwing thousands of (cheap) Russian undesirables (ethnics and mobilised convicts) into that particular meat grinder. I'm not sure where Wagner buy their kit from, but I would not be surprised if they didn't somehow have back door access to some tasty kit via the open market. I mean, if you had the means, you'd chose some decent Hechler & Koch armoury over some WW2 era AK's, right? I bet the Swiss are up to their necks in sending the good shit their way (happy to be proved wrong, of course).
  11. Decent article on how counterintelligence officers from the Baltic states view their Russian adversaries: „Human Life Has No Value There“: Baltic Counterintelligence Officers Speak Candidly About Russian Cruelty - Eesti Ekspress (delfi.ee) TL:DR - They're all cunts, to a man.
  12. UNGA vote to allow foreign held Russian funds to be used for reparations for Ukraine..
  13. I think reparations will come hand-in-hand with the lifting of western sanctions against Russia: Russia needs to start earning to get its economy on track, let alone beginning to pay down the penance of putting things right with Ukraine. And right there you'll have a ready made excuse for why Russia's corrupt oligarchy continues with business as usual in defrauding the Russian people; "Look, the Ukrainians are taxing our children's future"! and the ethnic 'othering' between both nations continues.. No, far better the reparations come from the seized assets of the oligarchy. Though I suspect easing of sanctions will arise out of which Russia emerges from this fiasco. There is also much evidence to suggest that there is a bitter civil war looming in Russia when this is 'over'. I think Zelenskiy is right to refuse negotiations at this stage: it legitimises the current regime - and it is on very shaky ground right now.
