League of Gentlemen Appreciation Thread

I still use “I can, I can’t” and “we didn’t burn him” from Tubbs, and “no tail” from Edward.

I always say “you’re my wife now” when I see an old British bloke with a much younger Thai/Phillipino wife.

I also always say “fire engine” in the style of Micky when I see one in the presence of my nephew, much to his bemusement.

Pauline’s “piss off” is the greatest piss off I’ve ever heard.

I’ve got loads of DVDs of old comedy shows and a lot of them have dated if I watch them now, but The League Of Gentlemen seems timeless. It’s definitely in my top five comedy shows of all time.

Started watching this again tonight after my ‘bummers are deaf’ tag went straight over Stig’s head in that Sheikh thread. I had series one on VHS back in the day and must have watched it ten times at least. Watched the first three episodes tonight and it dawned on me just how many throwaway lines from the show I’ve taken to using quite often in real life.

I do actually say “It’s fine” all the time in the exact way Benjamin’s uncle does in his first scene.

Pauline’s “Piss off” I’ve used loads as well.

Also “Semen is such a persistent stain” is something I use to take the piss out of the boy on occasion when he’s taking too long in the bathroom.

“AND YOU’RE ALL GONNA LAUGH.” I use that all the time.

“Buck your ideas up. Knuckle down.” I say that jokingly to my kids in Pauline’s voice.

I say “It just tastes so good” in that Yorkshire accent.

That’s just from the first couple of episodes. Fucking hell. What’s wrong with me?

I occasionally use the phrase "What's all this shouting? We'll have no trouble here!" to the cat when he's skriking for no reason.

Honestly never properly watched it but that clip last night had me in stitches so I’ll be giving it a proper go
